very flawed, ordinary fighter but he showed heart in that fight with Jirov and the one with Barrett and he blasted out one of wald pussy's knockdown-causers in one round instead of meekly decision-ing him via accidental headbutt
So Mesi was a huge draw in Buffalo and had quite the momentum then the Barrett fight kinda exposed him and then Jirov kinda gave him brain damage. Then from what I recall Mesi fought to be allowed to fight back and won and actually came back and was 5-0 or something and then dissapeared. How come he retired at that point??? p.s Wasn't Steve_Dave a Mesi groupie????
Joe Mesi probably picks up chicks with his boxrec.com search result. Flashy record, but damn he would've gotten blasted by a lot of guys had he ventured out of Buffalo more. But he was a little rugged & had a likeable vibe to him.
I've read that posted a few times here before, but never saw one of the broadcasts he was on. Was it FNF he did for a while?
I just went through 12 straight hours of The Walking Dead(season 3) don't you ever quote me u son of a bitch!!!
I always thought he had decent skills and a good right hand, his main weakness was his stamina. He was destroying Jirov & Barrett early on before he gassed.
Mesi. I seem to remember that name. Forgot his first name was Joe. Well let me say, he was sure no Tommy Morrison; they don't make them like that anymore.
Jirov used some serious head shots behind the head to really swing the fight in his favor....totally illegal...having said that he wasnt going to get far anyhow....Mesi got into boxing at what age 24 or something? For him to step in like that and actually become a fringe contender for a short period of time was impressive....his KO of Williams was actually impressive....maybe if he gets into the sport at a younger age and develops better skills he might have been something...but then again maybe his brain would not have been able to sustain the punches anyhow
Mesi was better than Tommy Morrison. Similar, but better. Less power, although still good power, more of everything else.
Morrison had hall of fame power, speed, and combination punching as a heavyweight....but unfortunatly his stamina was questionable and his chin was below average. Tommy Morrison would knock out Mesi in 1 round though....there are no similarities other then both of them being caucasian
When HOF is brought up it's hard to argue when it comes to boxing. It's not meaningless, but not somehow not worthy of the 'loftiness' the title implies. The bolded ones however are even harder to accept and i loved watching Morrison fight.
hall of fame speed and combination punching? hilarious. Tommy Virgets moved to D.C.? Morrison is a guy with a long career and only one single decent, not great, win. And he's a guy who got a gift draw against Ross Purritty and fell down every time the wind blew on his chin. Mesi has a better am pedigree and also has one decent win. They are the same size. They are chinny. The fight similarly. Their records are similar, but Mesi didn't get smashed like Morrison. They are the same fighter, basically, with the advantage going to Mesi because his stamina wasn't nearly as shitty.
Mike....i can't argue with you if you think Baby Joe Mesi would beat Tommy Morrison....i think you are just joking with me Yes...whiskey..Tommy Morrison had hall of fame power and speed for a heavyweight...maybe i stretched it with combination punching...if Morrison only had a freakin chin ha ha
He had a great left hook, no question. In terms of raw power on that one shot? No idea, but probably in the top 20 of all time for a heavyweight. Where do you get HOF speed from?
agREED... Morrison was More Naturally Talented...Head to Head, he Crushes Mesi...Head to Head, Morrison DOESN'T Struggle w/Jirov in the Least, Either... REEDhno:
Precisely... Mesi's Career was Compromised by a Blown Up Fucking CRUSIERWEIGHT, who WASN'T Even a Big Puncher @ the Lower Weight...The Beating Ray Mercer Put on Morrison Could've Ended Mesi's LIFE, Nevermind his Career... REED:dancingBaby:
