if broner fought burns (or malignaggi) in Los Angeles Id go check it out. wouldnt travel to see either match up. malignaggi would get whipped but him being a heavier/bigger fighter means he has a better chance to making things happen against broner than burns would.

That was a tough fight for Burns last night.

He didn't look in the best of shape, not as ripped as usual and his timing was off, not good against a tricky boxer like Gonzalez, does that guy have the longest arms ever for a lightweight, they were massive?

Ricky hung in there though and beat the heart out of Gonzalez in the 7th, he wasn't interested after that round.

It did show the limitations in Rickys style last night, he is a stand up boxer with a good jab, didn't have a plan B though until he decided to go for it in the 7th, against a world class fighter he could have been taken apart himself in that round, he will learn from this I am sure though.

Ricky will come back and look better, but I agree with others, he needs to be active, looked very rusty.

If anything Broner will consider Ricky a soft touch now and make the trip to Scotland where he will be first relieved of his dignity, then his personal possessions, and then finally relieved of his world title credentials by the Handsome Irish Brute.

Full fight. Apologies for the bell end doing the formalities. It seems nothing can be done "properly" anymore in the sports world without somebody SHOUTING. :shit:

I recorded it, but thanks, Irish. Very good fight. Gonzalez impressed me. I knew he'd be dangerous, but he punched himself out and had nothing left. You could tell Burns was rusty due to months of inactivity and frustration.

Good. He deserved to be in the lead and it should put a nail in the coffin of the BS about hometown scoring in Europe. Burns was taking over and probably would have carried two of the last three, at worst. I think Gonzalez sort of punched himself out/got hurt in the mid rounds and paid the price for it. 72" reach according to Boxrec. In fact the more I look back at it, the better a fight this seems to have been for Burns. Very useful defence.

    True on both counts.

Gonzalez would land the first two shots of a 5 punch combo, usually missing with a brace of uppercuts again and Watt would be "DERZ DAT UPPERCUT AGAIN!!!!!"

Burns would be handsomely evading shots and maybe shipping the odd flashy brace and Watt would be acting like he was Burns secret admirer getting all emotional and distraught.

I'd like to see more of Gonzalez. I hope he keeps his head high after that performance. Difference was experience last night. He proved he can mix it at that level.

Fast hands, 72" reach, decent pop and suspect stamina,-albeit he was hurt by a right uppercut in the 7th when he elected to trade- his mouth was also open as early as the 5th round. He may have had difficulty with the transition, jet lag, who knows. Would like to see him in there with the likes of Rigondeaux.

As good as he was Burns was a step up in competitive for his guy. If he can get to grips with 12 hard rounds, we will hear more from Gonzalez

I have a feeling this might be one of those wins that look better in retrospect for Burns

Yes. It looks like a piece of cheap and easy matchmaking that could have gone badly wrong but now could be used to help Burns. If that was a Warren show it would have been some fucking no hoper like Mitchell or what have you being blown away. You can fight the faded likes of Katsidis or the likes of Mitchell and not learn a thing. With regards to a possible fight with Broner this turned out very very well for Burns, albeit accidentally.

I don't suppose Broner's a viable opponent now he's jumped to welter. maybe Gamboa could be lined up.

I'd offer Donaire the money and get him to make 135 and bring him to Scotland. That would be a huge night.
