Seriously, there's too many of them. From the 'Super World' belt, to the 'Regular' belt, to the 'Interim' belt, to the 'Silver' belt etc etc. Jesus, there's too many! Soon they'll create a 'Who's The Daddy' belt and a 'I've The Biggest Dick' belt or something, it's getting ridiculous now and so tough to keep track of them all. Thoughts, gentleman?
I'm gonna write down all the titles later with who owns them and I bet I have a list as long as my arm!
Yeah, I stopped following who holds what five or so years ago. Life is better now. There was a time I really cared about who the 'real' champ was, etc... Now I just want to see good fights.
I'd like to start a new organization and just setup a new belt system The others would still be there but mine would be the best
A very unoriginal opening post. I am interested in seeing your list of all current belt holders, though. Anyone who throws the 'regular', the 'interims', the 'silver', in with the 'super' designation is either ignorant to how things work or is looking at the WBA and is ignorant to how they work. The WBA is genuinely fucktarded when it comes to belts. The other 3 are not.
Most of us would be ignorant about it. I don't know and don't care exactly how any of these guys do business. I know all the top fighters... watch every fight I can... but if you asked me which belts Danny Garcia holds at 140, I'd have to look it up. Doesn't matter to me.
Mike, I wasn't trying to be original mate, just stating the facts. I understand how the belts work/procedure and respect the more recognized belts, but is it really necessary to create a 'Silver' belt or 'Diamond' belt? I'm sure these two belts were designed only in the past few years.
I will note down all belt holders in each weight class for you though. Some of you who aren't familiar with who owns what will then know.
Fair enough. I'm not positive, myself. I think WBC. However, you know that he holds a belt and that it is one of the big 4. And it's not an interim belt. I don't think that one needs to know who has which belt to demonstrate the value of the belts themselves. The fact that you know he has one of them is enough. As fans, I think we are better off if there is no hierarchy of the sanctioning bodies. It puts the leverage with the fighters and not the sanctioning bodies if they are all viewed as being interchangeable.
Fair enough. But I didn't mean 'ignorant' as a synonym for anything other than 'not knowing.' The WBC's Silver belt is just another name for 'Interim'. The WBC's Diamond belt is just another name for 'we want to be associated with this fight, but our real champ is not in it.' In other words, ignore it. All of the sanctioning bodies who have 'Super' belts, just means 1. It is their real champ; and 2. They either hold another sanctioning body's belt along with ours or they've defended our belt a minimum of (10) a certain number of times and we want to give them recognition and some perks because of it. The WBA's 'regular' belt means 1. It is their real champ or 2. It is their interim champ if they have a super champ in the same division. Because it can mean two very different things, it means the WBA is deserving of criticism and ridicule. Regional belts are not meant to be anything other than stepping stones to title shots for the real belts. Their importance in the sport is clear and when people criticize their existence, they are being foolish and ignorant. Edit: But it isn't really any harder to keep track of the real champions today than it has been since the WBO cemented its status as one of the big 4. 17 weight classes and a max of 4 champs. The new designations didn't change that.
Over here you have the 'Central area' or 'Southern area' belts that have a long and proud tradition. It's great hearing stories about them and what they mean to people. Plus they serve up some real top fights!! Thanks for the reply. Top stuff!
I think I can name which belts the Klits hold. But in the spirit of ignoring them til they go away I'll leave them unnamed.
You're obviously not spending anywhere enough time on BoxRec and have obviously spent way too much time actually watching fights. How do you expect to know anything about the sport??
I've listened to my fightbeat brethren. I'm not going to pay attention to these other belts. Just the ones that matter most.
The only one that really matters is the interim super diamond east coast latino emeritus world championship belt. All the others are worthless.
