What are some fighters who you like to watch for their style, but who aren't particularly good in the sense they usually lose in big fights.

    For me:

    Juarez
    Andrade
    Maidana
    JM Lopez

JC Canelo. Always liked watching that guy. He had freakishly long arms and would use them almost like a praying mantis.

Golota. Guy was a very gifted boxer with great instincts, interesting punch selection, and unique style. And had a really great jab. Not a peppering one like Ali's, and not a stand alone weapon like Wlad. it was hurtful, but also used to set punches up.

Augustus when he was in spoiler mood was great fun

I think he's become overrated, but Matthysse is must-see TV for me because he's a pure puncher though I wouldn't say he's bad enough to fit the spirit of the thread

Gatti had shit defense, a shaky beard and ridiculous courage to go along with a sturdy left hook... as a result, he was in loads of great TV fights... not much replay value, but watching them as they happened was edge of your seat stuff

Going back to older days... as a stylist, I dig Zora Folley, terrific boxer... his chin was his biggest problem, but he had a beautiful, relaxed style on the backfoot... Other guys who were definitely very good pro fighters but were never quite good enough/consistent enough/lucky enough/whatever enough to be champions who I enjoy watching include Bennie Briscoe, Georgie Benton, Ruben Castillo, Art Hafey, Florentino Fernandez, Bernard Taylor and plenty more

Danny Williams without question. He was in some fucking epic scraps, and the Potter win is the greatest thing I have ever seen in a boxing ring.

That's him... excellent boxer... gave a good challenge there but just got caught with some blinding punches... he was very complimentary of Ali after the fight

Andre Berto ISN'T Very Good, but he's Almost Always in ENTERTAINING Scraps...REED Doesn't Expect Much from Provodnikov, yet ENJOYS what he's Seen from him vs. Bradley and a Handful of FNF Opponents...

Speaking of FNF, Henry Lundy ISN'T Good Either, but Usually FAN FRIENDLY....Brandon Rios Fights are ALWAYS Fun, Even Though he'll Be PUNCHDRUNK by the Age of 30...

The More REED Thinks about it, the More he Realizes there's Quite a Few Current Fighters who, While Not GOOD (Per Se), Make for INTERESTING Fights, on a Consistent Basis...

Rios and Khan for different reasons, as far as contemporary fighters.

Khan is a boxbot, but has heart and is usually in very entertaining scraps, plus you gotta love that baby deer jig.

Rios isn't very good, but is a little war machine, and you can almost guarantee his fights are going to be violent and action packed.

Folley was really good. It's a shame he was avoided when Patterson was champ.

Indeed... He and Eddie Machen, for sure, were two guys that were overdue for shots when Patterson was champ

Victor Ortiz is almost always in fun fights. Librado Andrade, I don't know, I don't watch much boxing anymore. :(

Yeah, and that Liston guy. I've always thought it sucks that Liston dominated the division for quite a few years, but since he was ducked for so long which resulted in him only making the one title defense, lowers his all-time standing to many. I've lost track of how many times some dumb-ass makes a big deal of him only making one defense while entirely ignoring what he did to the division while Patterson was avoiding all of the best challengers.

Yep. And not only did he beat them all, they were all dispatched handily, with the exception of Machen. In a just world, Liston would have entirely cleaned out the division as champ.

I saw Augustus a few weeks ago at the gym I train at. His gym brought some fighters over to my gym to spar a bit. Just thought I'd mention.

    Let's be real, here, though

Guys like Arturo Gatti, Jess Willard, Rocky Graziano are in the hall of fame... it's not an automatic "great fighter" badge... there are dozens of guys better than any of those three who are not in the hall of fame and probably never will be
