I agree he fought at an overly measured pace, and Kessler fought with more gusto than usual, and basically seemed to want it more. That's why I feel Kessler deserved the decision actually, even as a Frock fan.

 

There's no way I could have scored that first fight for Froch, even though I wanted him to win. Kessler was a clear winner.

 

I thought Kessler won close but clear. I don't know what REED saw to call it a draw.

As I watched it live, I scored the first fight an even draw. I could see a close Kessler win but I couldn't have given Froch seven rounds; it was one of those where Froch tended to win his rounds close and Kessler his a little bigger. FWIW, I knew that Kessler would get the verdict as the home fighter as soon as the final bell rang, but I had no real problem with the decision.

Yeah I can see how that would have an effect, didn't he have an ear problem prior to the Glen Johnson fight too? Carl is riding the crest of a wave at the moment, he's looked great in his last two fights but this is the acid test, Bute is no Kessler. I think he has a better chance at winning this time as momentum and home advantage can go a long way. Still though, for the life of me I honestly can't see any way somebody could have Froch winning the first bout, it was tough and close, but still a clear win for Kessler. He may very well just have Carls number.

 

I agree. I'm worried about the fact that he's looked great against guys who are just not that good compared to Kessler and we know that Kessler is a very capable boxer at World level. Part of me also thinks that Froch is looking past Kessler which isn't good. Ward's name keeps getting mentioned by Froch. Focus on the job in hand.

 

From the sounds of it too I think Kessler has got to Froch abit. Not sure what's gone on there.

What Froch did was force Kessler on the back foot/landed solid shots (early on), but then he either showboated or took a backwards step when he should of sustained that pressure.

 

Yep, he Needed to KEEP Kessler in Retreat Mode...Froch Landed CLEAN & Forced Kessler Backwards PLENTY of Times, but he'd Admire his Work Instead of Following Up....

I got Froch winning this. After rewatching the first fight agains, I felt it was way, way closer than I had remembered, with Froch having a legit claim that he deserved to win. Plus, I feel the first fight was Kessler career best performance and that Froch has improved since then, contrary to Kessler who seems basically the same.

 

Same, it's the only way he's gonna win to be honest. He has to put Kessler under pressure from the get-go and not allow him to get comfortable. Kessler does all the technical stuff just a little bit better.

 

What do you guys make of Froch's "prepared to kill Kessler" comment?
