Yep... Carl Froch SHOULD Be Celebrated...Mikkel Kessler SHOULD Be Celebrated...2 Top 10 ALL-TIME Supermiddles, w/Out Question...But Andre Ward DOMINATED Both of them... Yet for Some Reason, Ward is Catching FLACK in this Thread???... REED:scratcher:
BEAT, Probably..."Rape", No... Carl Froch is BALLSY, Unorthodox & Well Rounded Enough to have Given Calzaghe a VERY Good Fight...& it WOULDN'T have Been as Easy for Calzaghe to ADJUST to Froch, as he Successfully Did w/the More MECHANICAL Kessler... REED:hammert:
I agree, Ward is the man and that shouldn't be forgotten. Still, it would be a bigger event over here than the US, and makes more sense for Ward from an economic standpoint. He's the champ and can call the shots, he shouldn't have to fight here if he doesn't want to, but back in the day the top US fighters would travel. Ali did it, Foster did it, Robinson did it...maybe times have changed and I'm just being nostalgic but it would be really cool to see Ward go against the grain and come to the UK.
Back when the fight was a realistic possibility (around Calzaghe-Jones/Froch-Taylor time) I think Joe would have won VERY comfortably, Reed. Obviously Froch seems to have improved since then and it would be a tougher fight but I'd still pick Calzaghe to win fairly comfortably. There were times Froch missed with big swings and left himself open with his arms down as he was getting back into position, but Kessler didn't put his foot down. Calzaghe would not have given Froch a breather, he'd be getting shots off and keeping the pressure on constantly.
For Better or Worse, Marquee American Fighters DON'T Venture Overseas Anymore... Dela, Floyd, Ray Leonard, etc...Hopefully Ward DOES Go Overseas, but his Legacy SHOULDN'T Be the Least Bit Affected if he Doesn't... REED:nono:
Calzaghe maintained a pace in the Lacy fight that any respectable featherweight would have been happy with. He'd hit Froch over and over while Froch was trying to wind up his threshing machine. Those lunges and hands-down crap won't cut any ice with Calzaghe, who would be clowning Froch at every opportunity.
I wouldn't put Ward anywhere near those names yet, either in terms of achievement or bums in seats...having said that, I don't think his legacy would be affected by not fighting either of these two again, at least not at this time...say Froch goes up and beats the dogshit out of bernard hopkins (would never happen), then Ward (who had not achieved anything comparable in intervening period) didnt fancy fighting him again outside of home turf, it would reflect badly
I was just about to say the same thing salaco did. Those 3 fighters are MASSIVE draws, and have very, very accomplished careers. Ward will never be on that level, he shouldn't be compared to any of the 3. And REED while it's pretty obvious that Ward would have beaten Kessler anywhere, he absolutely benefitted from hometown officials. If he travelled to Denmark like Frock did, you think they would have let him butt the shit out if him, elbow him, hold him etc? ::
Good point. Ward would win, but at least Kess would not need a trip to the best plastic surgeons afterwards.
REED Was ONLY Using the Examples of Dela, Floyd & Sugar Ray as MARQUEE American Fighters who NEVER Fought Overseas...REED Could've Very Easily Noted LESSER American Fighters like Fernando Vargas or Sugar Shane, who NEVER Fought Overseas Either... OR, Bernard Hopkins, Who (After Becoming a MARQUEE Fighter) NEVER Fought Overseas...Bernard's NEVER Been a Draw, Even in Philly, whereas Ward @ Least Puts 10,000 Asses in Seats, in his Own Hometown... REED:dunno:
Yeah that's fair enough, I guess modern American fighters just don't travel. How come you think even the less Marquee names like Vargas, Nard etc have never fought abroad? Just not necessary? Enough money etc in the US? Or do you think it really is more to do with being paranoid about being robbed and what not?
Even Though Boxing's Supposedly "Dying" in the States, America's Still THE Place to Ply your Trade, as a Prizefighter... Lennox, Hamed, Hatton, Pacquiao, the List Goes On....Guys who were HUGE Domestic Draws, yet Fought Quite a Bit in the States...Calzaghe Spoke OPENLY about Coming to America @ Least 1nce to "Validate" his Career...Hatton INSISTED Upon it...On the Flip Side, Guys like MichalSHITski are RIGHTFULLY Looked Down Upon (to a Degree) BECAUSE they Never Dared to Fight in America... In the Case of MichaSHITski, he SAID he'd Fight in America, Actually FLEW TO America to Attend Roy vs. Hill, then NEVER EVER Set Foot on American Soil Again... REED Can't Explain WHY America's Still the "Heart" of Prizefighting, so to Speak, but it IS... REED:dunno:
Those fighters aren't in the same position as Ward because they didn't have rivals from other countries who could justify making them travel. Roy did. Ward does. And Ward has the stigma of looking like a babied fighter due to his Oakland schedule in the Super Six. Of course he doesn't have to travel, but I think he should for a few reasons: 1. He'll beat Froch. 2. He'll never have to hear the doesn't travel criticism again 3. It will broaden his appeal to the masses winning in another guy's hometown. 4. Froch deserves a rematch now. To say Ward will never be a draw is to ignore what he is and probably will become. 1. He is an undefeated American who is a dominant fighter. 2. He is or will become the best American fighter in the near future. 3. He is promoted by HBO.
Whether it's a myth or not the complaint is out there - lurk on youtube and you hear that shit again and again. I guess it's up to Ward whether he cares
Agreed, Ward has nothing to fear but still wont leave America, from a sporting perspective its a shame we wont get to see the RE this side of the pond.
Calslappy didn't even "rape" a guy like Charles Brewer. He would have beaten Froch via clear decision, but Froch would have had his moments. It wouldn't be no Calz-Lacy white-wash, that's for damn sure. As for what happened last night, credit to Froch, but it has more to do with Kessler declining than any improvement in Froch. Kessler's no longer the fighter he was 3 years ago, and Froch still is. And even 3 years ago, Kessler was on the decline.
Back when the fight was a realistic possibility (late 2008-early 2009), Calzaghe would have beaten seven shades of shit outta Froch
He doesn't have to and I'd hold nothing against him if he didn't, but I'd like to see it as it would be a massive event. Probably just short of Wembley standard, but big enough to fill out the O2 again or the City Ground
Joe looks bigger than expected there. I thought Carl would be a couple of inches taller. Calzaghe is at least 6 foot.
Im shocked that brits would pack in such a huge stadium and shell out that kind of money for such a clear and predictable beating.
You could apply that same logic to Floyd Mayweather fights yet he some how makes more money than Elvis
