Carl Froch vs Gerald McClellan @ 168

Who wudda won dis den?

 

McClellan would be thought of as no more than a sort of notable titleholder from the 90s if he were a retired fighter now who hadn't suffered a calamity in the ring, BUT he legitimately hit real hard and I'm not in love with Froch's chances against a guy like this when he gets hit as often as he does... He's game, maybe he'd surprise me, but I think he's getting hurt here

 

McClellan by stoppage. Like cdogg said, Froch is too easy to hit.

 

McClellan was a murderous punching middleweight but couldn't knock Nigel Benn out in his one fight at super-middle and got instead got vegetabled. If I had to bet money, I'd pick Gerald but Froch, a strong, big and iron-chinned campaigner vulernable to speed (not G-Mans forte) has every chance against a completely unproven 168lb-er.

Assuming Froch doesn't get punched very hard in the face and body for 6 rounds, I'd pick him

 

Benn was basically a less sympathetic ref away from being stopped in one round, to be fair

 

Yep. The ref was a joke in this fight.

 

Well, perhaps, but McClellan had nine more rounds to end him after that, including the 8th when he dropped an exhausted Benn hard, and the 'murderous puncher' still couldn't manage what Watson did with a jab in six rounds and Eubanks did in nine. For all his attributes, Benn never had a great chin and should have been easy meat for McClellan (hence the pre-fight odds).

That was his only fight at 168lb. A near life-ending loss to a guy he was four to one on to beat. Not really sure why everyone seems to imagine this means he wipes out Froch.

For me Benn-Mclellan fight is a right off. You don't know when the fateful injury occurred or the effect it had on him in the ring. He was blinking ominously for quite a few rounds from what I've read (I've never watched the fight, personally)
