[h=1]Miesha Tate replaces injured Cat Zingano for 'TUF 18' coaching gig, title fight[/h] by MMAjunkie.com Staff on May 28, 2013 at 8:35 pm ET

[IMG]A knee injury has forced Cat Zingano (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) to withdraw from an upcoming coaching spot on Season 18 of "The Ultimate Fighter" and a title fight with UFC women's bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC).

Taking Zingano's place is Rousey rival and ex-champ Miesha Tate (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who lost to Zingano in a fight to determine the champ's opposing coach and next title challenger.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the switch, and UFC officials subsequently confirmed the news.

"This is what we really wanted all along," Rousey told Yahoo! Sports. "Everyone said an 'Ultimate Fighter' between me and Miesha would be the best. We have a personal history with each other and this is a personal show. "For some reason, me and Miesha are intertwined in fate like Ali and Frazier or something like that. I think people will look back at this as one of monumental rivalries and look back at this as one of those things that really cemented women's MMA."

Before the shakeup, Tate was scheduled to meet Liz Carmouche at UFC on FOX 8, which takes place July 27 in Seattle. Carmouche's manager, Lex McMahon, didn't know whether a replacement opponent had been found, and UFC officials told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that no plans for a new opponent for Carmouche have been finalized.

Filming began today in Las Vegas for the reality show, which debuts Sept. 4 on FOX Sports 1 and features both men and women vying for a UFC contract. Tate reported to set alongside Rousey, who reportedly was none too happy to see her former opponent.

"It was rewarding to see that," she told Yahoo! "I was like, 'Yay! This is getting good.' I watched her go to her corner and her corner was up in arms. I was just sitting there in the doorway thinking, 'This is awesome.'"

The two fought in March 2012 under the Strikeforce banner with Rousey cinching a first-round armbar to take Tate's bantamweight title. Rousey became UFC champ shortly before Strikeforce was disbanded and defended her title with another first-round armbar of Carmouche at UFC 157 in February.

Tate believed it was a chance to redeem herself after losing to Zingano via third-round TKO at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.

"I felt I was cheated a little in that fight with Cat," she told Yahoo! "I had two solid rounds and one not-so-good round. Either way, I felt I was meant to be here and it's come full circle."

Following "TUF 18," Rousey and Tate are tentatively scheduled to meet on a year-end pay-per-view card set for Dec. 28, likely in Las Vegas.

Zingano, who injured herself during her strength and conditioning routine, underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ACL and meniscus. She is expected to be out for six to nine months.

The fighter on Tuesday night tweeted out a photo of her in a hospital bed, post-surgery, thanking the UFC for its support.

"I was jumping over tunnels that were about 12 inches high," she told Yahoo! "I'd jumped over them like 10 times already. This one time, I jumped up and my left knee came down right on track and my right knee bent outward. Snap, crackle, pop, and I hit the floor. That was all she wrote. It was terrible. It hurt bad, but the thing that bothered me most was the sound. I never experienced anything like that."

    Awesome news :bears:

I like Miesha, and it seemed to me the main reason Zingano won is size.

Lame, Tate isn't beating Rousey so this is just stupid. Coming off a loss and getting a spot on TUF and a title shot. Fucking ridiculous. Anyone else would have been a better replacement.

I look at it like the Ortiz-Shamrock TUF. Ortiz had already clearly beaten him and Ken had deteriorated considerably. But at the end of the day it made good television because there was a genuine dislike and both guys had a little WWE type personality in them.

Tate-Rousey is the same. Their fight at the end will suck with Rousey destroying Tate, but the show will be fun because both are good on camera and they will sell their annymosity to the public.

Smart move by the UFC tearing up Cat's knee.

Don't really see how ANYONE could stand Tate.

If she didn't have a fat rear end she would be as hated as her doofy boyfriend. What an unpleasant person.

That sounds nasty. I ruptured a biceps tendon last year lifting weights. It hurt a little, but the sound was the worst part at the time. Sounded like someone snapping a handful of celery stalks or something.

I wanted to see how Cat would do against Ronda. Then again I don't want to see Ronda get beaten up. I don't think Miesha has much of a chance in the rematch.

I disagree. I think this season of TUF could significantly boost women's MMA.

    How???...

Meisha Tate is a CREDIBLE Female Fighter...Yeah, Rousey will WHIP her Ass Again, via 1st Round Stoppage, but Tate ISN'T Without RESPECTABLE Skills & Talents, on the Female Level...

Then, Factor in the TANGIBLE Beef Tate has w/Rousey & it's a NATURAL Promotion...Especially if Dana White Plans on HEADLINING Rousey on Another UFC Card, it's in his Best Interests to Put Forth a Fight that Grabs MAINSTREAM Attention...Rousey-Tate II is THAT Fight...

My only issue with this is it is yet another fighter getting a title shot coming off of a loss.

Really hurts the credibility of the sport when it happens as often as it's been happening.

Tate is coming off a loss and already got submitted in the first round by Rousey. It would be like the UFC announcing that Mark Hunt is going to coach against Cain in the next TUF. That's exactly how credible this is.

The tate vs. Kat fight was close. it was a good scrap for the #1 contender spot. The #1 got injured so the runner up takes her place. How is that not credible?

    It won't.

The division is dreadful outside of the champion, and the worst thing about it is the alleged cast is full of pretty unattractive ladies. Not sure why the network didn't just pick the hottest girls they could find.

A lot of these girls are journeyman level talent and look like butch lesbians....I predict this will be a colossal failure.

Ok so if JDS gets injured throw in Mark Hunt. It's credible.

There is undefeated Sara McMann, an Olympic wrestler in the UFC too. You don't think that would do good ratings?

Ronda gonna slap that arm bar on her and make her submit.

I like Rousey a lot, real down to earth fighter.

When you spend time with her and talk fighting, time flies.

No because Mark Hunt was knocked out Cold and the fight wasnt even close to being competitive. Tate IMO could have continued and was even going for a shoot when the fight was stopped.
