1. Dropping water weight in reasonable amounts (varies on a person-to-person basis, both Trout & Canelo weighed in the 170s on fight night for their bout) on a day-before weigh-in is not going to have an adverse effect on the performance of a 22 year old fighter

2. "mass doesn't matter a jot" is an unbelievably stupid thing to say. Floyd is a vastly superior fighter to Vitali Klitschko, who do you think would win if they fought? What doesn't matter is bulking up to an unnatural size for your frame/body. Diego Corrales was 6'0," he would've gotten merked by any semi-decent light heavy. Canelo belongs in another weight division from Floyd.

His actual in-ring scale weight has barely changed from his super-featherweight days to now. He's certainly filled out because he isn't starving himself to make weight but the remarkable aspect of his exploits has been how successful his style has been against bigger, stronger men who still outweigh him by allot - not any huge gains in muscle or mass. That being the case the retained speed isn't an issue.....and to the best of my knowledge no known steroid improves your punch resistance (not cutting weight might tho).

 

No Manny did not come up from a lower weight class. When both guys were 16, they both weighed 106lbs. Only Pac was a pro at 16 and Mayweather was still an am.
