Has Alvarez made any statements about the 2 lbs? I could see it being a factor or a non-factor to him. He seems like a thick, legit junior middle to me, but he also is not tall for the weight, nor does he look drained at 154.

It is certain that he has enough time to figure out a strategy for how to lose the extra 2 lbs.

 

He is 5'7 and hardly has a Hagler esque physique to compensate for his lack of height.

I think he's a bit on the lazy side, if he really wanted, surely he could still make 147 - especially given how young he is.

The 2 pounds shouldn't be an issue at all.

Alvarez is pretty thick man, he has more of an MMA/wrestler physique than your standard boxer

 

"Like I said before" he must be bigger than I think he is, given how much he weighs in the ring, but I swear he doesn't look big to me at all at 154, given he is only 5'7. If he was a 5'7 Hagler type, with a big torso and massive beefy shoulders, sure, but does he really look THAT thick to you?

I don't know about you, but to me he didn't even look significantly bigger than Matthew Hatton, and looked quite a bit smaller than Trout, who really is a big 154 pounder.

 

Pretty much yeah. He just doesn't have your archetypal big 'boxer's frame' with disproportionately wide shoulders/long arms but he looks thick. Definitely more of a wrestler body type, thick abs/back, big traps....haven't seen his legs but my guess is they'd be big for a boxer

 

Ive seen his legs and they are much bigger than the average boxer. He's a very thick fighter.

 

I have to say I just don't see it. At all.

Look at him, I mean his torso is fairly wide but that's about it, he's not as thick as you guys make out.

Here he is against Mosley. Mosley looks BIGGER. And Mosley and Floyd looked exactly the same size when they fought.



Maybe he has big legs, or huge arsecheeks or something? :dunno: I have no idea how he puts that much weight on after the weigh, he just doesn't look big at all to me.

I still don't think so. In the top 2 pics you posted he looks thicker than he usually does to me, my mental image of him from seeing him fight etc.

In the bottom 2 he doesn't look that thick. Look at the bottom right, he doesn't exactly have a huge beefy torso, it's his fat little legs that stand out to me in that shot.

Trout looked at least as bulky, and several inches taller. Who has Canelo actually bigger than in the ring at 154 apart from 140 pounders Ndou and Lopez?

Canelo does have some big ass legs.

 

Big-ass bones (literally).....his waist and hips are as wide as his lats (like Joe Louis). His wrists look really large vs his forearms, elbows vs biceps, ankles vs calves etc. There's basically no 'tapers' there everything's just thick & blocky

 

He's still just a kid really. 22 years old. He might be a LHW by the time he's 30.

 

Canelo is a big guy, no question. He won't be at 154 much longer. Regardless, making the fight at 152 is bullshit either way.
