Once again, he was still green as Hell when he fought Ponce. He improved by a lot since then. Had he NOT improved since Ponce, he would have lost to Demarco. Funny how revisionist history goes. Going into that fight MANY here thought Demarco would give Broner Hell. Broner not only beats him, but DESTROYS him, and everyone says Demarco was crap. Rios is one dimensional as all Hell, and Broner would beat the shit outta him. There's no fighter on the world class scene more tailor made for Broner than Rios is. Who's to say Rios would even beat Paulie? If Richard Abril could outbox the guy, I wouldn't put it past Paulie doing it.
I can't imagine Broner missing Rios and Maidana with anything he throws. Rios just made MIKE fuckin ALVARADO look like a technician. You have to be pretty goddamn one dimensional to make Alvarado look like a technician.
Perhaps a bit more competitve because Broner is no Floyd (especially not THAT Floyd. That was Floyd at his very peak), and Rios is a better pressure fighter than that Canadian bum, but Broner does beat him up.
Even though Maidana and Rios are hittable, and not great, they have such heart and desire and are relentless. They also have pretty solid chins. They can only ask questions of Broner...bring something out of him that we haven't seen before.
Maidana doesn't have no solid chin! He was being bounced around and wobbled by that super bum Lopez. Broner can hurt Maidana badly. Rios has a solid chin, but he went to the Yory Boy Campas school of defense. He can only walk into so many Broner shots before he gets busted up. Rios-Broner will never happen anyway. And unless Pac is VERY shot, he's gonna fuck Rios up.
It still would take something to put Maidana down. He's no quitter and the more you hurt him the more dangerous he becomes.
Of the two, I'd probably give Maidana a better chance than Rios. He's a bigger puncher than Rios, and a big punch is what it's gonna take from either one to win.
rivera was better than malignaggi but i never bought into him being a serious threat at beating top guys. he was the same level gate keeper then as malignaggi is now. whitaker was heavy into cocaine when he struggled with the guy. mosley jumped two divisions to fight rivera same as broner did saturday, that is the main reason i mentioned him. in both instances the guy who had been in the higher division was able to take the clean punches for 9+ rounds from the guy moving up two divisions. and as we saw mosley's power increased as he spent more time in the welterweight division
Your Broner defending is really quite sickening. Rivera was a 5'11, solid, natural welterweight. Paulie is a small 140 pounder who was stopped twice at 140, and knocked down by an average fighter in his previous fight.
Paulie is a lightweight, he's a very good lightweight that either lacks the connections or is simply too fucking honest to pull a Gamache on it by hiding out in Providence or Rhode Island or whatever. He prefers to fight them all come what may. He'd take on Pac in his next fight if it was there for him.
youre missing the point. after the rivera fight few gave mosley a chance against the dildo recipient. is there anyone at 140 - 147 on broners radar (aside from mayweather jr) who is that much better than malignaggi compared to the fishnet adorned queer vs rivera?
What a mans life has come to when he allows his reputation at fightbeat to be impugned by the wanton lust he displays for a blinged up little fag from Cincinnati.
He's a junior welterweight. Basically all the guys at welter right now are really natural junior welters. Bradley, Alexander, Floyd, Guerrero, Broner, Paulie.
I'm not sure about Floyd anymore. 3 years ago or so i think he could have bounced between 140 and 147 if wanted to but i doubt it now.
Broner isn't nearly as bad as people are making him out to be. Styles make fights, and if you're dealing with a little guy whose punches are the equivalent of getting a glass of water thrown in your face, you probably are going to just throw caution to the wind, and walk him down and pot shot him. You guys out there saying that so and so will beat Broner based on how Broner fought Paulie are off base.
Broner doesn't seem very intelligent to me out there sometimes either. You would have thought he would have committed more to the body against a light punching guy who was moving all night. But he was more concerned about not getting hit and showing off for his homeboys.
I wonder how many of Riddick Bowe's homeboys were with him when he was getting his fat arse kicked to the canvas in that Thai boxing thing. It seems these guys never learn.
This is one of the worst posts I've read recently. The whole point is Broner DIDN'T throw caution to the wind. It was a tepid performance, where he didn't ever walk Paulie down and put a beating on him. Just one counter shot at a time. The bolded sentence is a total oxymoron. Throw caution and pot shot :: The whole point of potshotting is it's safety first. "Behind on the cards, he threw caution to the wind, got on his bike and started jabbing" ::
REED Doesn't Really Get it Either... Just Watched the Fight Last Night & Can't See what Everybody's BITCHING about...REED was Expecting this CLOSE Fight that Broner ARGUABLY LOST, but that's NOT What REED Saw...Not Broner's Finest Performance, but a CLEAR-CUT Win, for Certain... No, he Didn't Drop or Stop Paulie, but he STAGGERED him Several Times...Paulie's a TOUGH, PROUD Dude...Broner was Moving Up 2 Weight Classes, Fighting on Paulie's Turf...Given Those Circumstances, REED would Give him a B- or a C+... REED:hammert:
Moving up 2 weight classes to fight a small 140 pounder, who was clearly smaller than him, and had no power.
Agree on all counts except for the turf and weight class thing.....turf does not matter if the crowd cheers for Broner..the jerk had more support then Paulie...or at least even....also moving up 2 weight classes would mean something if he was smaller...Broner was the bigger fighter and Paulie is below average on punching power
