I doubt it. He's 31 and no one at 160 wants to fight him.

He's a superstar already, it's just that people have only copped on to him now. He's the quiet, assured man going about his business and slowly making a name for himself. He needs the big fights now so that more people become aware of his talents. Hopefully the big fights get made for him now.

And I doubt he gets a proper big fight until he's 33 or 34, if at all. Hope I'm wrong.

I was just thinking, he'll probably be mid thirties before he even gets a proper big fight, at the point he'll be popular enough, with the right opponent etc.

I meant the 'casual' fan/general public outside of the boxing vicinity becoming aware of who he is. Maybe it was tough for him and his team to get him that break earlier in his career, but now it's coming together for team GGG. He was making some noise a few years ago.

As if HBO can't make him a superstar within a year.

The answer is--yes, if HBO wants him to be.

I like Gaybox a lot but for some reason I can't imagine him having the mainstream appeal of Pacquiao for example.

Not sure why, maybe because he's from Kazakhstan.

    Why Not???...

Say he Fights Chavez Jr by the END of 2013 or EARLY 2014, Then Fights & BEATS Martinez by the END of 2014???...He'd Still ONLY Be 32...

After THE WAY he Disposed of Macklin, Golovkin's Promoters Need to Be AGGRESSIVE w/his Matchmaking...Since he Turned Pro LATE & HASN'T Taken Much Punishment from Smaller Gloved, Headgear-LESS Foes, Golovkin has Little, if Any Wear & Tear on Him...For a 31 Year Old, AGGRESSIVE/PRESSURE Fighter, he's Got LOW MILEAGE on Him...By Comparison, Golovkin's OLDER than Both James Kirkland AND Alfredo Angulo, yet Who's Got a BRIGHTER Future of the 3???...

Golovkin's Got a GOOD 5 Years of Elite Level, World Class Fighting, in FRONT of him, in REED's Opinion...It's NOT like he's Gonna Burn Out in 2-3 Years...If his Promoters Take an ACCELERATED Route, Golovkin Could CONCEIVABLY Be a Certified Boxing STAR, in a Year or 2...

It's not just about his promoters being aggressive. The top guys don't want to fight him and they haven't for a while now.

That's when the Promoters Should Start NAME CALLING Guys that DON'T Want to Fight Him...EMBARRASS their Asses PUBLICLY...

If it's Peter Quillin, SAY it Is...If It's Dmitry Pirog, SAY It Is...If it's Chavez, Jr., SAY it Is...When ELITE Guys Show a Reluctance to Face You, the NEXT Step is NAMING NAMES...

Yeah I guess that's true, but it usually helps to have a country behind you, such as Tito, or indeed a whole continent like with Pacquiao ;)

Ya but he needs to fight good opponents. I don't think the American public cares much if he beats Chavez Jr or Sergio Martinez( first guy not very good and the second looking further past his prime each fight now) I doubt most people will have even heard of him even if he does that. IMO he would have to unify the middleweight division and move up and take on the Super Middles. Andre Ward will beat him easy IMO but if he were able to knock him out in the USA in a hyped fight then we could be talking. But not happening

But that's the fight at 160 that people want to see. Martinez is the guy that could well make Golovkin. Martinez has said that he wants to fight Golovkin, but only when he's back to being healthy and has had one fight prior. I have my doubts whether Golovkin-Geale/Barker gets made. Apparently, Geale's already ducked Golovkin and Barker's remained silent on the matter. Quillin is with showtime I believe, so would they and HBO be willing to negotiate to make Golovkin-Quillin happen? I'm not so sure.

If Golovkin decided to move up to 168 then I don't think Ward's people would be interested. Not unless he's proven himself some more and can bring a belt to the table. What if Golovkin moves up and gets in line to face Stieglitz? Gets in line to face Froch? Possibilities there.

True but what I'm saying is that beating Chavez and Sergio will not make him mainstream

Those are obstacles that he has to go through to maybe get to Ward. People love guys who move up and bring KO power with them. If he can beat Ward then I think he can be mainstream but only if promoted right

I really think Ward as an option is pretty far off. If Golovkin decides to move up he'll have to settle in at 168 and work/earn his way to a shot against the likes of Ward.

yes it is but that's how long it's gonna take for this guy to become mainstream IMO...a fight with Ward

Yep...You Don't Necessarily have to BEAT a Mainstream American Star to BECOME One...It Certainly HELPS if you Do, but it's NOT a Prerequisite....

 at needing to beat Ward. That wouldn't do anymore for him than beating Martinez or Chavez.

beating jermain taylor would probably be as good for him as beating ward, marketing wise.

Ward is well-respected in the boxing world, but he's got no cache... nobody outside of serious boxing fans and some people in his hometown know who the fuck he is
