As a Result, REED ISN'T Asking WHY Certain Fights Didn't Happen...The Question is CRYSTAL CLEAR; WHO POSED the Biggest THREAT to a PRIME Roy Jones (Early/Mid 90's - Very Early 00's)???....

In retrospect, probably Nigel Benn

My boy Eubs probably had a better chance than anyone on that list. He is tough, awkward, unpredictable, and can punch.

Steve Collins. He's convinced me that he would have beat Jones

Out of those guys, Nigel Benn just because he was wild and willing to throw crazy bombs no matter what... he has an incredibly remote chance of landing one flush, which could be a fight-altering thing

I agree with Neil and MWS that Eubank would probably be my choice if he was in the poll (granted, I would never pick him, just think he'd have the best chance)

    Darius.

Agreed. None of the others have a chance in hell of doing anything with Jones.

I said "other" cuz I don't think any of these euros had a shot in hell

Small pedantic point - i wish Americans would stop calling UK people 'euros'. Here if people talk about 'europeans' they mean people from the continent. UKs pretty separate from continental europe historically, culturally blah blah (unfortunately).

    But yeah, definitely Darius.

Mikkelboofski couldn't fight a lick. Jones would white wash him.

I disagree. I think he had a good style to land something on jones too. Slim chance, obv

I remember being surprised you rate Dariusz. He seemed like a half decent world champ to me and nothing more, I didn't rate him at all. And I don't think he brings anything at all to the table against Jones.

    Come on Hut...

I like to say "euros" and also call everyone German if they are like from uzbekekstan lol

Ok, you can say it then, LOK

DM had nothing for Jones... would've gotten bamboozled, IMO

You better be a more intelligent stalker than DM to deal with Jones speed and unorthodox technique... Maybe someone more like Archie Moore

To me, the best bet against Jones is someone tall with a long jab and the discipline to anchor around ring center... Foster, Spinks, that kind of guy

DM would have followed Jones around

I think he was pretty good for a couple of years....beating Hill & Griffin isn't to be sniffed at. He was methodical, accurate and he pressed mid range in a way Roy always seemed a little uncomfortable with (griffin, late rounds vs Hopkins, Glenn Johnson). He was 32 by the time the 90s ended remember...in 97 it's a sorta-interesting fight

I don't think it's fair to bring up Johnson... Jones was gone by then

Clinton Woods tried the same thing as Johnson and got pasted

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

Montel Griffin 'followed Roy around' in their first fight, if you wanna put it that way. Honestly I think that's the best tactic. Press punching range and force Roy to move.

  21. Neil

montell griffin was hard to hit. that is what made him effective against jones jr in their first fight.

  22. Hut*Hut

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

Yeah and he punched with Roy which made Roy tentative. Darius always did that. Not saying I'd pick darius (my pick would be Roy by KO), i just give him the best chance of the guys listed

  23. LOK

LOK I'll eat your asshole alive

Daria mitilshitsski was a good fighter but Roy would make him look like a big slow german bum

He'd be fondeling freaks in fallujah by Friday!

Not to beat Jones.... Just reminding you suckers Collins is Irish

That certainly makes him a better person. But I don't think it'd help him beat Jones.

The answer is obvious...a past his prime Joe Calzaghe beat a past his prime Jones in convincing fashion so we have some evidence to use....Calzaghe has strength on the inside, fast hands even if he slaps alot, solid chin, the confidence, work rate to give Jones a damn good fight at 168...Nigel Benn has power sure but I don't like his chin that much or workrate...Jones would potshot him all fight long and IMO stop him....Eubank is a little too crude and wild for my liking....a untested Calzaghe dominated a past his prime but still good Eubank...amazing how you guys overlook the obvious pick
