Well there you go, you just did it. It's been 'appropriately reassessed'.

And yes, obviously Calzaghe was a world class fighter and a well above average champ. Just a really, really gay one.

I'd just say..Canelo is an undefeated, young, strong, VICIOUS champion !

It is an EXTREMELY dangerous fight for Floyd and to be honest it probably shouldn't even be made! Floyd is really a featherweight and Canelo is a middle!!!

    This^

For what it's worth, if Mayweather were to do this (12-0, dropping the guy, etc) I would be quite impressed... the rest of the story in the long run comes from what you are talking about above

The conclusion will be..."oh well, he lost to Floyd...so does everyone." Then Canelo will move up to 160 and GGG will beat him even more impressively than Floyd did. Boom!

Trout beat Cotto, at 154, I just checked his rezumay, its the only noteworthy name on his list and its the ONLY name on his list. At 154. In 2012. Yet, by getting past Trout, Canelo has done well. OK. :scratcher: Yet Lacy is shit. Further :scratcher:

It's more a matter of Trout being the kind of guy most fighters and their team would like to avoid. Canelo could have without getting much backlash but still fought him.

Oh come on. He beat him 10-2. Lacy couldn't beat Omar Sheika 10-2.

    Regarding Calzaghe/Lacy

I was impressed with how easy Calzaghe won, absolutely... so it was a good performance

However, what happens after IS part of what rates a win (or a good showing in a loss) over time

Lacy's top opponent going into that fight was Robin Reid... The apex of his career is a win over Robin Reid, who was a pretty average, brief titlist years earlier and was basically a competent, but undistinguished pro... Other than that, you've got guys like Manfredo, Pemberton, Sheika... and that's about it. The shot Jones stopped him... He was, all in all, a very ordinary pro, a hype job.

So it's a good performance over an ordinary guy

Calzaghe doesn't get downgraded in retrospect by Lacy's suckiness - he did everything he should have done to a sucky guy and more. Only the significance of the W does. I dunno what the Slagfaggy lovers are getting so defensive about.

    It's absurd

It was a good performance against a not particularly good fighter... nobody ever says "oh, that sucked... he looked like shit"

It was one of his best performances, he won going away. Good on him.

    "looked fine".

Hut...he was old and finished. He also was no ATG to begin with. He was dropped badly in 2005. On Wlad's undercard. :shit:

He took a hiding from Margarito, probably illegally, he took a beating in spots from Floyd, he'd a lot of miles on the clock., A lot. He came off a loss to fight Trout.

It's part of the "Oh, he's good, the guy who squeaked past him is good too" routine that I hate.

Nobody in their right mind regards Cotto has being worth a tinkers dam at this point in time.

Any fresh, athletic dude with his head screwed on should be dealing with him. And in style at that.

So, you expected Trout to 10-2 a guy that Mayweather had just 8-4'd?

I'm beginning to get confused about what we're even arguing about. Lacy was shit. Trout is OK. Alvarez is a little better than OK. Calzaghe is a jazzercizing antichrist. There's all my opinions on the matter in one place - if I start sneakily revising them after September 15 slap me right.

How many top-level guys in history weighting 168, or 175 in the ring if you prefer, would you pick Lacy to beat?

Well he couldn't beat Joe Calzaghe so that does not bode well, does it?

Who was top level? Is Froch top level? He lost to Kessler who lost to the Ordinary Joe whose best win before that was Lacy :dunno:

I'd give him a good chance against Froch, ironically, as Froch is so easy to hit and has none of the fluidity, rapidity or agility of Joe Calzaghe.
