    Agreed.

Nobody actually cares of or for Joe...except, maybe...well....Joe......but what I am querying here is the values and criteria being used to make decisions regarding fighters.

Canelo is good becase he beat Trout who is good because he beat an ancient Cotto....at 154.....
.....and Lacy is shit because he...well....just is, see. :dunno:

    Ancient Cotto

Who'd you pick to win that one going in, since you are so hung up on the idea?

Did you follow the link I posted. It was to the staff of BoxingScene.com's pre-fight predictions, not a forum or some other place. How are staff writers at a boxing website 'teenyboppers'? What about the link Slice posted from the BBC. Are they employing 'teenyboppers'?

    Horseshit.

Oh, that's okay then. Apart from the fact that you said 'no-one' but apparently meant no-one except people who I think I know more about boxing than and that includes every boxing staff writer at a notable boxing website.

I'm not impressed by boxing writers the way you obviously are

I am interested if they have news about something, a fight coming up, etc

I have yet to encounter a boxing writer whose expertise on what goes on inside the ropes made any impression on me at all. Some can tell good stories about what goes on, but the Xs and Os? Nonsense.

I do not know more about boxing than James Toney and if James Toney feels that a guy is going to beat another, and James is not being all Black Panther about, then I take that opinion seriously.

jaws1216 was a boxing writer for fightbeat

A guy who describes Nicolino Locche as "poo"

A guy who calls Alexis Arguello "overrated"

    He was a boxing writer

Do you guys really turn to boxing writers to help you decide what you think is going to happen in a fight? To determine if a guy is a good fighter?

Where did I say I was 'impressed' by them? I am 'impressed' by them in the sense that when someone says 'no-one thought Mr X any good' and, in fact, about two dozen guys at a specialist boxing publication say 'Mr X is very good and heading towards greatness', then I know the first someone is making up stuff. I am also not arrogant enough to presume that I know more about boxing than a bunch of boxing staff writers and some former world champion boxers. I don;t have to be 'impressed' with Ritchie Woodhall, but he knows more about boxing than I do.

I am, however, particularly impressed by your attempt to spin out of your unambiguous statement that "No-one thought Lacy was any good" by adding layer after layer of ambiguity to subsequent posts. It is a brave effort. But it has demonstrably failed.

The point is that you said 'no-one thought Lacy was any good'. You are now spinning that to mean something else to extricate yourself from the proven fact that loads of boxing writers, retarded or no, thought him actually very good indeed. The fact that Jaws is an excellent mathematician but a gormless boxing fan is irrelevant to this central concept.

The fact that seems to be lost on the Calzaghe enthusiasts here is that many folks favored lacy because his opponent was looking shitty and rotting against pathetic competition. Not because lacy was a murderer.

I've never heard any of these pundits or read any of these writers say anything at all more insightful about actual fighting than the anonymous nobodies posting on this site

I could find you writers and pundits who though Tyson would KO Lewis... It doesn't suddenly make that win an incredible accomplishment

Obviously, you are impressed by these people since you think it arrogant to assume you might have a better idea of what is happening in a fight than they do

I don't think it is arrogant at all, it's common sense. Most of these guys are just fans who liked to write. And fighters are notorious for doing a poor job of analyzing fights and fighters. Jim Watt, George Foreman, these guys say something flatly untrue and ridiculous every broadcast... did you think James Page was the man at 147 until proved otherwise because George said it and to disagree would be "ARROGANT" or did you say "that's fucking retarded"?

James Toney? Steve Bunce? Ron Borges? Tim Smith? Are they part of Jaws vendetta against Senors Locche and Arguello?

    It's not irrelevant at all

If I say "no one", I am talking about people who matter to me, people whose opinions on the subject matter to me

Boxing writers and TV pundits don't matter to me... Jaws was a boxing writer, he was no less qualified to be one than Steve Bunce or Michael Katz or Ron Borges or 1000 other guys

Go and read the link I posted, you dull spastic. We've already debunked categorically this particular strand of drivel. Lacy was apparently 'one of the best young titlists in the sport' and 'destined for greatness'.

Oh. That's odd, because when I say 'no-one, I actually mean no-one. As in 'not a single person'. When I mean 'no-one whose opinion is important', I tend to say 'no-one whose opinion is important'.

    Was he?

    Shitty.

    Rotten.

    Pathetic Comp.

Lacy, they tell me, barely got past Sheika. Joe diced him in 5 rounds of a very entertaining slugfest. Then they tell me that the Lacy win was shit because Lacy was shit because Lacy barely decisioned Sheika, and that they felt Lacy had a chance because Joe looked shit against the shitty opposition whom, ostensibly, Lacy was looking even shitter against.

You could not make this shit up.

the opinions of those guys in determining an upcoming fight or the attributes of the fighters in question are meaningless to me

Toney has been saying ridiculous shit for 20 years... Calzaghe could have been fighting some random black kid from Detroit with 10 fights against nobody under his belt and he'd pick against him

Steve Bunce, Ron Borges Tim Smith... you find these people insightful?

It's okay. I can be as much as a bastard to Doggy and Hut as I like, and vice versa, about Calzaghe because it is the one subject when I don't take their comments remotely seriously and I know for a fact that they know they exaggerate enormously because they hate the Welsh bastard. Besides, I don't even like Calzaghe - I hate the fucking dickhead.

I don't like him either, I just happen to feel that some of the stuff being spouted here does not compute.

People say they felt Joe would get blitzed because Joe was looking bad against guys that Lacy was looking even worse against. As it happens, Joe looked great vs Sheika, so, a fortiori, go figure.
