I loved his go get em attack but never realized how bad his chin was and his power ended up being average when stepping up against better comp

I think Bojado had a shorter reach then Cupey (or he fought like it anyways). Never quite understood the fascination with him coming up. It was like, what if John Brown was Amerexican..............AND lazy, what kind of career would he have had?

    Francisco Bojado is the answer.

I once though Enzo Macaroni was the second best cruiserweight in the world. Turns out he was unbelievably chinny trash.

I got caught too. This guy looked like the total package. I expected Victor Ortiz to have a pretty good career too. He doesn't have a bad career but he hasn't reached the level I believed he would reach.

Andrew Golota. I thought he was the best of the young heavyweights at the time and thought he would crush Bowe in the rematch. He did, but crushing Bowe's nuts again was not the outcome I foresaw. Then came the fight with Lewis, and I thought Golota would win. Then the fight with Michael Grant. Man---I still feel the shame. There were lots of young heavyweights over the years who I thought would be great, but Golota was the worst because he looked like he had all the tools in my eyes. George Foreman said it best (although he was talking about Mike Tyson): "Million-dollar fists and a ten cent head!"

Quite aware there was a significant gap, but the first one made him look the goods with Rahman exiting the ring headfirst. Then after he won the title (against Rahman), there was the possibility of him going on to bigger and better things. Alas, a title does not a future make. Either fight could have made an onlooker think that Maskaev would be better than he wound up being.

He was an old man by the time he got that second shot against Rahman. High hopes were not in the air.

I didn't say high hopes were in the air.

Sometimes a fighter becomes harder to beat after they win a title---call it self-confidence or simply a fighter showing some type of improvement even at an advanced stage in the fighter's career. Freddie Pendleton comes to mind. Like Maskaev, he could crack, and like Maskaev, he won a title and became more highly regarded if only for a short time, and in Maskaev's case, a very short time. Both had multiple losses and had long been written off. They both put it together mentally at late stages in their career and both won titles as a result.

Maskaev did well to win a title, but he was already worn down by too much punishment. Ultimately Rahman just turned out to be a good fit.

In recent years, for some reason I saw a lot more potential in Charles Huerta than really turned out to be the case. Wasn't predicting a takeover or anything, but thought he'd be more of a contender than the doormat he's become.
