12 YEARS A SLAVE

Based on the true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man sold into slavery and played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Ejiofor I always took as a very good actor but going off this trailer the role looks a little big for him. He doesn't seem to be doing a bad job, but a role like this calls for an exceptional performance which he appears to be falling short in delivering.

Didn't say the movie doesn't look good, just that Ejiofor looks slightly in over his head. Of course I'm only going off the trailer, he may wind up doing an Oscar worthy performance. I still plan on seeing it, it looks good.

 

Yeah, in a vacuum I would have thought he'd be good for it too. Just doesn't look like he's pulling it off that well in the trailers, but I could be wrong. I'll have to wait til I'm actually watching the full version to know for sure. As for who'd be good for it, I'm not sure. Not a lot of young quality black actors out there I can think of to choose from. And obviously Denzel is too old.

chiwetel is a great choice anyway, and i agree with you, the movie looks great.

Mos Def Would've Been an Excellent Choice, but he's Toooo CONSCIOUS & PROGRESSIVE of Thought to have Allowed Himself to Play a Slave...

This Role Could Potentially PROPEL a Young Black Actor Into Another Stratosphere...In that Vein, Ejiofor's a GOOD Choice...Michael Ealy Would've Been Another...Larenze Tate or Taye Diggs Wouldn't have Been Bad Choices Either...

If Ejiofor masters a role like this then he might become a elite...

This is a complete rip-off of Chapelle's "The Time Haters".

 

Good for him...he has the role...and going by the trailer it looks like he will do a good job...but he is not an ELITE actor...
