Just came back from the theater. Pacific Rim is an AWESOME movie. The best blockbuster of the year so far. Much better than Superman and 10x better than Ironman 3. I don't know what movie panchy and Muzse saw, but this was just a spectacle.

Independence Day was a spectacle too. This is the same with giant monsters and Robots. Not a bad movie. Visually eye candy. Will be forgotten by next summer. No way this was better than Man of Steel. It is in the Iron Man 2 league, though.

I don't think the movie will be forgotten. Much better than Independence day and the movie shits all over Iron Man 3 and you know it, The movie scores a 7.8 on IMDB and deserves much better. You were too prejudiced going into the film panchy. I did not and I was thoroughly entertained by the movie.

Just watched Pan's Labyrinth. Truly a work of art. Fantastic movie. I recommend everyone to watch this movie. Thank you for letting me know about this movie. Guillermo del Toro should direct the new Star Wars movies and not Abrams IMI because of the fantasy element in Star Wars. Del Toro knows how to make fantasy.

    SPOILERS!!

So what did you think at the end? Do you think the girl was just mentally ill or do you believe it was magical? I just think she was a disturbed individual.

I'm pretty sure all that stuff with the faun, the fairy and everything all really happened, and if you have a problem believing that, then you're the disturbed individual.

There are several scenes that lets you conclude that it was all in the girl's head. It was her coping mechanism to escape from the horrors of her reality.

Well when the girl was trapped in a dead end in the labyrinth, the walls opened and she escaped. Also, the plant that she put in a bowl with milk, her mother miraculously heald. Even the doctor didn't understand it.

Nah man. It was all in her head. if you notice when the mom threw the root in the fire only she saw it move and cry. if you notice when the step father saw her at the end talking to the faun, that he didnt see the faun.

Just picture it like this. At the end, when she entered into the kingdom with her dad, she was actually just painfully dying. And escaping the realities of death with her imagination.

    Rainmaker "Twinkle Toes" McJack

You are wrong here Anthony. She just has the ability to see things that others can't. How do you explain her escaping the dead end? How do you explain the miraculous recovery of her mother?

Her mother was pregnant. Pregnant women get sick a lot. It could be just some pregnancy issues or lack of iron.

As for the wall opening up, it was a maze. So what she went through could just be a different section than what was reality. Either way, if only she could see something then why did the faun go through all the trouble to get her alone?

    Rainmaker "Twinkle Toes" McJack

The doctor could not explain the recovery of the mother. The girl went through the walls, but her stepfather couldn't. When he arrived at the dead end he turned around and went the other way. It is the TRUTH! You just don't want to see it. Just like 9/11. You dont want to see that it was an inside job.

The doctor didnt have no equipment or anything. Had he done some actual test, maybe he would have explained it.

so the acting in this movie was at times average to downright horrible...though I place more blame on the script which made then look stupid...audience laughed out loud at some of the lines on how stupid it was...having said that the robots and monsters were badass and the fight scenes were out of this world...the best fight scenes I have ever scene for huge monsters, robots, or anything gigantic....it was totally badass

    UPDATE:

The Hollywood Reporter Sunday August 04, 2013

Box Office Report: 'Pacific Rim' Scores Massive $45.2 Million China Debut

Legendary Pictures' tentpole Pacific Rim soared to a $45.2 million debut in China, marking the biggest opening of all time for a Warner Bros. title and the sixth-biggest debut of all time for any Hollywood movie.

The strong showing at the Chinese box office pushed the film's international total to $200.4 million and worldwide cume to $293. 4 million.

BOX OFFICE REPORT: '2 Guns' Wins With $27.4 Mil; 'Smurfs 2' Sings the Blues

It's still not clear whether Guillermo del Toro's film will break even, considering it cost at least $200 million to make not factoring in a major marketing spend. Domestically, it has earned a tepid $92.3 million.

Still, the film's No. 1 weekend finish at the international box office ($53 million from 58 markets) was good news for Legendary -- which put up the lion's share of the budget -- and WB. Pacific Rim narrowly beat the $52.5 million opening of Sony's The Smurfs 2, although that film is only playing in 42 markets.

In China, Pacific Rim easily came in No. 1. The giant robot-monster mash up did huge business in IMAX theaters, which ponied up $6 million from 109 screens. It is IMAX's second-best opening in China.

Doing business with China is proving incredibly problematic for Hollywood, with the China Film Group withholding all box office payments because of a dispute over who should pay for a new value-added tax. Hollywood studios haven't received any money since late last year, but don't dare hold back their films

Wow man. Watch Transformers and Godzilla again and come back here and apologies.

I think that for a sequel Del Toro should be just the producer, hire Robert Rodriguez to make the film under $100 million budget, release it first in China and watch as the film breaks all box office records there and later release it here with the poster ads of 'The International box office phenomenon is finally here!' and probably the film will do better than the first.

The comparison with those films are not completely off. Godzilla had those two Siskel & Ebert look-alike politicians for comic relief that didn't work and Pacific Rim had those two unfunny geek scientists that seemed more proper for an episode of The Big Bang Theory than in an epic scifi film. I was expecting Sheldon Cooper to show up at any moment in their scenes and yell, 'Bazinga!'.
