    No Doubt...

He was a CHINNY Ammy who was Matched PERFECTLY, Up Until he Got Exposed by 2 Underdogs MOVING UP IN WEIGHT...Now, he's Lost 3 of his Last 4 Fights, in Pretty VIOLENT Fashion...

If he Needs the Money, Berto Could Be a Sacrificial Lamb for Keith Thurman & Possibly Errol Spence, but he's DONE as a TRUE Championship Level Fighter....

Oh, Berto lost but he probably isn't shot. His motivation is probably lacking though.

That guy was better than I thought he was though. I never saw him fight before and thought he was a journeyman you see on Friday night fights.

    @ Best, Soto-Karass is/was a GATEKEEPER in Today's Welterweight Division...He just KO'ed Andre Berto...Berto's DONE, Bro....

I wonder if Berto had not bulked up so much and so early in his career he could've been more competitive in the lower weight classes. Reminds me of David Reid.

I'd say that David Reid was more talented and skilled than Berto. A lot more actually.

Reid wasn't lacking in skills. Reid's problem was that he had shit stamina, and a droopy eye.

Berto has NO skills to speak of. He's won off his handspeed, and his above average power his entire career.

The guy blows, and unlike Reid, who got exposed by a great fighter in Tito, Berto got exposed by a bum in Victoria.

David Reid was a better fighter than Berto.

My thoughts on the two undercard fighters:

Keith Thurman: Passed his first real test in impressive fashion. After the first 3 rounds, I thought Chaves was gonna pull the upset, but Thurman made adjustments, took control, then wacked Chaves outta there. That impressed me. Nothing about Thurman really screams superstar, or greatness, but given the state of 147 right now, he's a threat to anybody.

I'd love to see Broner-Thurman. I'm not sure whether Broner would be too skilled for Thurman, or if Thurman would have too much firepower for Broner.

Omar Figueroa: Very exciting, young, action fighter, but I don't see him having much of a bright future as a championship level fighter. He's too brawl happy, his defense is pathetic, and he has good pop, but not the type of devestating pop that one needs to be successful with his style.

At 135, if Figueroa were to face a Terrance Crawford, Crawford would give him the beating of his life.

Berto's defense is simply awful. Got hit with ease. I don't know why and even though Broner's defense is better and he's better all round tbh, Berto just reminds me of Broner, or the other way round.

Worst beating Berto has ever taken. He has a ton of heart but its not gonna do him any good anymore.

He can blame the shoulder all he wants but he's gonna suffer some serious brain damage if he keeps getting in there.

Berto is now a stepping stone.

What next for Soto-Karass then? Josesito Lopez? Thurman? Broner?

Just curious, why the fuck would you pick Berto to beat someone you've never seen before "easily"?

Soto Karass is no journeyman, he's a solid gatekeeper type.

Berto is the most shot 29 year old I've ever seen.

And Figueroa-Arakawa was a good fight but I think the Showtime crew was foaming a little too much about it.

  21. Xplosive

No, he's not. Vargas and Mel Taylor were more shot in their late 20's than Berto is now. Know why? Because Vargas and Taylor were elite in their early 20's, and finished by their late 20's.

Berto was never elite, so he didn't have that far to fall of from. Berto was always shit. He's more exposed than shot. He WAS better pre-Ortiz, don't get me wrong, but it's more a case of having never been that good.

Agreed 100% about the second part though. Showtime overrated the living FUCK outta Figueroa-Arakawa. Comparing it to all time great fights was a DISGRACE! There's usually several fights a year better than that fight. They had the NERVE to go as far as to compare it to Corrales-Castillo.

Chico musta been rolling in his grave.

I'm just upset we were robbed of about 15 threads started by Irish moaning about the press treating bleck Berto more fairly then they did the Drago Wondertwins, during their respective quit jobs.

Because he had a crappy record and not even like an Antonio Margarito type of crappy record where most of his losses were early in his career to good guys, he was losing multiple times to average guys within his last 10 fights. He LOOKS a lot better than his record though, he's nothing special but a decent guy with a great workrate.

Also basically agree with Xplosive...I don't think he's shot per se. He was injured, came into the fight in terrible shape and arguably won 5 rounds with a knockdown.

Berto's problem at the moment seems to be his motivation. He's not a good fighter by any means though.

Berto's record is crappy also and has been losing to guys that are not that good.

Back at a bar in 1973, during Foreman/Frazier after the 4th knockdown, Silent Night's pops was saying to the guys there who had picked Foreman, "this is ridiculous, you are picking this untested amateur to defeat the CHAMPION OF THE WORLD?? ridiculous"

After the 6th knockdown and the fight being stopped, he continued "god, you guys are terrible at this... How could you pick George??? I'll bet you anything Frazier wins"

    Yes, him as well.

Benitez, Taylor, and Vargas are much better examples than Berto.

Vargas was a very good talent, and Benitez/Taylor were special talents. Berto is a scrub who had good handspeed.
