No idea but I can't say I find it surprising.

I don't know man. I think the G-man is a little more gone than Kelly.

I'd like to think a prime McLellan would have put up a better showing against old-man Hopkins, but who knows. Gerald was never known for going deep into fights, and Hopkins would have taken him deeeeep.

Pavlik always seems to do stupid shit when he falls off the wagon. He hasn't fought in a year, I'm guessing that has something to do with it.

Didn't he crash into a telephone pole with an ATV while hammered (or something like that), and leave the scene all mangled up a few years ago?

McClellan is sometimes overrated as a fighter, and he was generally a sadistic/fucked up human being, but I'm pretty confident in saying that he would have blown Pavlik away in under 5.

The first Taylor fight is all the evidence you need in assessing Pavlik's chances against G-man. Taylor hit nowhere remotely NEAR as hard as Gerald, wasn't anywhere remotely near as good a finisher, yet he was 1 or 2 good shots away from scoring a 2nd round TKO.

McClellan would have put Pavlik's Pabst drinking lights out.

Jackson would have knocked Kelly out as well.

Come to think of it, Pavlik would be a non-factor at middle in the early-to-mid 90's.

The thought of what Jones, or Toney would have done to Pavlik is horrific.

I think McCellan would have beaten the shit outta the ancient Hopkins that beat Pavlik.

Prime Hopkins whups Gerald, but not the old man version that schooled Kelly.

Oh and, McClellan would have knocked out Martinez.

It's not the real Kelly. I just went on the page. Clear as day that it's a spam profile.

Pavlik is indeed bitter, but I don't think he's bitter/stupid enough to say that McClellan was a bum. Even on a drunk off his ass day.

    Good point.

In fairness with Jackson, it might have been a case of whoever landed the first solid shot, and the fight would have been over for either guy.

Kelly was never a one shot artist. Jackson was doing very well in the first G-man fight, until he walked into the MONSTER right hand that put him to sleep. Pavlik didn't have G-man's one shot power. Also, G-man had an EXCELLENT chin, and absorbed shots from Jackson that would have put Pavlik out.

I'm sorry, but I saw Pavlik take FAR too many clean shots against that bum Miranda to pick him against the likes of Jackson.

Not exactly sure what the laughing is about. Gerald was never off his feet despite taking bombs from Benn, and Jackson. Unless bleeding from his brain should be held against him.

Correct me if I'm wrong Irish, but didn't you once say you'd pick Matthew Hilton to stop Pavlik?

So what's so outrageous about saying McClellan stops him?

i asked if little hilt would do any worse than zuniga and the other 154lbrs that smelly kelly was beating up.

i was lolling at your iron chinned comments about mcclellan, not questioning his ability to beat pavlik

When the Hell did I say "iron chin"? I said an excellent chin.

An iron chin is Hagler, Chavez, Lamotta.

I never said G-man's chin was that calibre.

But he had a better chin than Pavlik.

And for the record, I wouldn't totally count out a young Hilt against Pavlik. Not with Hilton's power, and Kelly's weak defense.

the reason G beats Pavlik is that he probably finishes Pavlik like Taylor should have, and does not allow Kelly to recuperate and get back into the fight like Taylor did.

G didn't have an "excellent" chin, in fact he was very susceptible, and had "blinking" issues after winning a fight in one round, where the guy he beat grazed him with a shot. G was damaged, from the get go.

    Agreed with the first part.

Disagreed with the second part. G had at least a solid chin. When you say he was very susceptible, you make him sound like Khan/Berto, or somebody like that.

    There's diff degrees of chins.

G-man's is far removed from being amongst the great chins, but I think he had a very solid beard. ESPECIALLY when you consider that most fighters from his mold, like a Hearns or McCrory, had dodgy chins.

I think the guy was neurologically unsound from day one. Sure he could take a good shot, but he was the sort of guy who could win a fight, and then die in his sleep. Benn hit him behind the ear in the first round of their fight and all the fight drained out of him then. Maybe he had a thin skull at the temples and rear of his head.

One of the theories is that the shots he took in the first Jackson fight were the start of his neurological problems. Probably not, but with Jackson's unreal power, it's not something you can totally discount.

It's possible you are correct. There might have been something wrong with him from the start.

It'd be interesting if he were around today. The thought of McCellan-GGG, or McClellan-Froch is mouth watering.

You'd have to make Ward the favorite over him, but G-man would have had a HELLUVA puncher's chance against Ward.

  27. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

It's odd, he might have Froch one punch away from going out, and lose, and drop three early rounds to Ward, then take him out.

McClellan was, albeit retrospectively, the very definition of a vulnerable dangerman.

  28. Xplosive

    Xplosive X-MOD Bad Motherfucker

With Manny in his corner, I think McClellan would have stopped Froch. But I'd give Frochy a better chance than Pavlik. Mainly because Frochy's chin is so much better than Pav's. Also, Froch is less robotic than Pav.

Agreed on Ward. Ward could be boxing him senseless, then get put to sleep with one shot.

Therein lies the reason why he was a danger to Jones. Although to me, mid 90's Roy might have been the best fighter to ever put on gloves, so in the end, I can't say I think Gerald would have won.
