The following three lunatics were wastes because they were well; bat shit crazy and sick! But which one of them had the most talent/quality?

    Ayala, Valero, or Ibeabuchi?

    I would say:

    Ibeabuchi.

    Then Ayala.

    Then Valero.

    For once we can agree.

That's how I'd rate them as well.

Who did Valero every really beat? He's more known for his KO streak, IMHO.

Same here. And that is mostly because Ike is the one of the 3 that was most difficult for me to see being defeated.

I thought Tua beat Ibeabuchi, but it was close.

If we're talking pure talent, Valero had lots.

I think Ayala had more pure talent than Valero.

    That's fair.

Valero's issue was never talent. He wasn't particularly skilled.

I think Valero's overall talent is sort of underrated, while his power is overrated. Still, at the time he died, he was the best lightweight in the world since Marquez had left 135.

Ayala had legit fight ending power in his left hook, had fast hands, and put together some tremendous combos.

He was probably destined to fail had he not gotten locked up, but only because he was surrounded by Leonard, Hearns, Duran, and Hagler.

Today it'd be different. I have very little doubt that young Ayala would have smoked Canelo. He was better than Canelo in damn near every way.

Valero had unexceptional talent at world level. Just a hard punch, natural fighting instincts and toughness.

Ayala and Ibeabuchi were considerably more talented.

Going back to crazy Ike for a second, and in regards to him getting overrated, I still can't believe a select few think that pre-prison Ike could have beaten a prime Tyson.

If the guy LOSES to Tua in most ppls eyes (mine included) then how in the Hell would he have fared vs a young Tyson, who brought 10x the speed and skill of Tua, and combined it with two-fisted power.

Tyson-Ike would have been a fun fight, but if we're talking about the 80's Tyson, I really think Ike would have gotten taken out Pinklon Thomas style.

    Ayala, to me

I never saw the big deal with Ike... He looked pretty good, but I didn't think he was something really special

Valero was better than the "ungainly" scrub Smegman made him out to be, but he looked like a guy that was bound to run into something and get stretched

Never seen Ayala fight when he was young, but Valero was clearly a better fighter than Ibeabuchi

Valero reportedly slipped considerably after moving to Japan, I don't really know how true that is though

Ibeabuchi flattening Byrd and standing toe-to-toe with the biggest puncher in the HW division at the time (aside from Lennox maybe) is more impressive than anything Ayala or Valero did

Byrd fought Vitali, Wlad twice, Golota, Holyfield, Tua, Povetkin and Ibeabuchi and only Ibeabuchi iced him. That and the fight with Tua, I think he COULD have been the real heir apparent. Byrd is a borderline ATG fighter in my opinion, simply because he gave such excellent accounts of himself on so many occasions against bigger stronger men. Byrd is better than anyone Tony Ayala beat.

    Same here:

I have unquenching hate in my heart for Valero. From the piece of shit he was as a person, to the way he was over-rated, both "talent" wise and "skill" wise...............so I'll just leave it at that.

Maybe he had an excuse. Maybe he actually was brain damaged all those years they didn't let him fight in the U.S., which led to his piece of shit personality and poor mans Acelino Frietas style............but I don't give a damn, and his resume is for shit.

BTW, anybody who jumps in and actually ranks him above Frietas, should be banned from this site forthwith.........

Cdogg hates me for having this trait, but I hate Valero because he was so loved by these morons on the websites, who acted like he was some sort of a modern Day Duran. For fucks sake.

The sheer respect the wee mad cunt had afforded to him because he had a tattoo of Chavez and he was this Latin Bomber and all of this dirge.....he was a small, powerful, psychotic bomber who never really fought anyone.

I reckon Ken Buchanan would have kicked the living shit out of him. Somebody with a chin and some balls and a jab and a bit of movement and craft.

You HAVE to Go w/Ike Ibeabuchi Here...

Neither Ayala NOR Valero Fough Opponents that were AS GOOD as Tua or Byrd Were, when Ike BEAT Them...Ibeabuchi had the GOD GIVEN, ie., NATURAL Ability/TALENT to BEAT David Tua in a Toe-to-Toe Slugfest (the ONLY Man to EVER Do that) & STALK, CATCH & FINISH a PRIME Chris Byrd...

Based on WHAT these Guys Actually DID, Ike's the Only Answer...

You're saying that a case can't be made for Chris Byrd? How many fighters have been stopped the grand total of twice, never being counted out, against a plethora of opponents who consistently were either, or more than one of, taller, stronger, faster, harder punching, harder-to-hurt, etc??? Harry Greb? Gene Tunney? These are legends....supposedly. Bums like Tom Sharkey get mentioned a lot, veritable icons of "Boxings Golden Age". :wack:

    Cut the Bullshit, Irish...

The ONLY Reason You're Suggesting Byrd as a Possible ATG is BECAUSE his Scalp was Claimed by Wlad...If Byrd's an ATG, Wlad AUTOMATICALLY Looks Better "by Proxy"...

I said Chris Byrd was an ATG FIGHTER. Not an ATG Heavyweight Boxer/Champion. Wlad doesn't get a fucking thing out of beating Chris Byrd up, at least not as much as Byrd gets for going the distance.

Oh, now this is a change in direction. So much for "Little Chris"

As it happens, I do not believe we will EVER see a guy medal at MW at the Olympics who not only goes on to fight predominantly but not exclusively at HW, but be more than competitive against much bigger men, beat his fair share AND win a title.
