Thoughts on starting a boxing predictions league?

Any of you guys up for this? Some huge fights coming up. I think it's a great idea.

Firstly, we'd take a look at the upcoming fights from September-December and go from there. We'd agree on which fights stand out for each week. As far as the points system goes I'm thinking the following:

5 points = correct winner
5 points = correct outcome (UD, SD, MD, KO)
10 points = correct round of KO/stoppage
20 points = correct prediction of a draw, TD or DQ

Count me in, I've never participated in these before but I predict I'll clean up anyway

 

Start on September 14 as we have Mayweather-Canelo and Garcia-Matthyssssse, plus any other to be included. Second week on September 28 which has a few fights on, including Stevenson-Cloud, Haye-Fury, Chavez Jr-Vera.

Thoughts?

Oct 12 - Marquez-Bradley, Orlando Salido-Orlando Cruz
Oct 19 - Provodnikov-Alvarado
Oct 26 - Kell Brook-Senchenko, Hopkins-Murat + Peter Quillin vs TBA
Nov 2 - Golovkin-Stevens
Nov 16 - Donaire vs TBA, Mikey Garcia vs TBA
Nov 23 - Pacquiao-Rios
Dec 7 - Alexander-Khan (it looks like)

so we have these fights scheduled (with some opponents to be announced), but others top fights will surely be added. Also, if there are any non-title fights (10 rounders, 8 rounders), that you feel will be great fights and tough to predict, we can add them also.

 

Ricky Burns-Raymundo Beltran on September 7 (for the WBO lightweight title which Burns holds), is a fight I'd personally like to start on.

Plus on that night you've got Chris Arreola-Seth Mitchell and Rafael Marquez-Efrain Esquivias if they interest anyone.

but whoever is keeping score/setting up matchups needs to keep with it..not quit halfway...and only somewhat meaningful fights...I don't want predict between two bums on espn...

Just out of interest, regarding a TKO/KO victory, will we just count that as one? So say you predict Matthyssse to KO Garcia in the 5th round but the official verdict is Matthyssse TKO 7, will we still award you points for your KO pick?

I am not sure I'll take part but I think this is the only way it can be done. At least in Europe, when the ref stops the count to wave the fight over immediately, it scores as a TKO. Thus the most clear KOs actually become TKOs and predicting whether or not the ref will complete the count seems tad silly

 

And how many weeks should this league last for? If we start from September 7 through to December, that gives us 10 weeks worth of predictions, unless fighte are announced for January and February.

It's RARE for the Ref to Adminster a 10 Count, Nowadays...Typically, when it's OBVIOUS the Fighter isn't Getting Up Anytime Soooon, the Ref'll just Wave it Off Altogether...If REED Isn't Mistaken, Pac-Hatton WASN'T Officially a 10 Count KO, Even Though the Ref Could've Counted to 1,000....

That's solved then. 5 points awarded for a KO prediction, even if you state TKO. They count as the same thing.

 

As far as your schedule thing, Jimmy... maybe you you do it like 4 months = one season and when the 4th month expires, a new league "season" begins??

Yep, that's what I was thinking too. I don't think any fights are scheduled for January as yet, but if they are in the following weeks I can add any meaningful ones to the schedule.

 

That Would Take the 1st Season THROUGH December...New Season Starting in January...
