I dont know man. Looked like Mir was out for that split second. Tough situation for the ref. Either way, Mir was going to get some serious GNP
That looked pretty fishy to me. A guy as flexible and hard to submit as Benson giving Pettis an armbar, not tapping out then walking over all non-chalant....didn't seem to care at all he lost which is really unsusual for him. Wouldn't surprise me if this was a work.....Pettis is fighting Aldo....gets "injured"...isn't cleared to fight...TJ Grant pulls out shortly after with phantom injury and Pettis miraculously gets healthy enough to fight 3-4 weeks after the fight he pulled out of, in his hometown then somehow looks amazing despite being ragdolled like 3 fights ago by Clay Guida.
They already were gonna do a Pettis\Aldo fight. And they could've just as easily done a Henderson\Aldo 'superfight'. TFK
Yeah they were....and then they came up with this clearly bullshit concocted plan. No one pulls out of a fight then fights 3-4 weeks after their cancelled bout. I think they want to do Pettis-Aldo but either Pettis knew he couldn't make the weight or the UFC decided they needed to do something about Benson after the Gil debacle. This way they can make Pettis-Aldo and it's a win/win for them no matter who wins. UFC is really relying on Aldo to carry them after Anderson's imminent decline and retirement. The Brazil market has been huge for them these last few years and Aldo is abba ut to get the torch passed to him..not to mention he has a bit of an undeserved(as of recent) reputation as an exciting finisher. Pettis is very marketable for obvious reasons. Aldo-Henderson isn't much of a superfight, first of all, and wouldnt do nearly as well, but furthermore it's a fight the UFC clearly would want Aldo to win...this way is just better business for them.
Silent you are too smart to think the UFC would jeopardize their brand for some lightweight work job.
Really? And I guess Top Rank isn't considering all of the obviously rigged boxing matches they've had under their banner.
Yeah, what about Henderson's resume indicates he should get another title shot? Come on. You're just being a hater. If he gets an immediate rematch, he will still be in the top 20% of most worthy opponents for a title shot in the history of combat sports.
There are plenty of reasons to believe the UFC conspired to get Pettis against Henderson to occur in Milwaukee on UFC 164. Same way we ended up with Tate vs Rousey in TUF. But fake inury conspiracy theories fall within the 'nobody really gives a damn or should' level of conspiracies. To think that the UFC would conspire to fix a fight is on a way different level and without proof should be considered nonsense. It just doesn't make sense for them to fix fights. They have the monopoly. They win no matter what happens.
Yeah UFC inured Zigano's ACL forcing her to get surgery in order to have a rematch of Tate vs. Rousey, a fight in which rousey dominated.
The body kicks beat Henderson. He thought he'd get a bit of recovery time in top position and got caught. Ordinarily Henderson is tough to catch in any submission, but those kicks really destroyed his focus. Pettis has really improved his takedown defense. Remember when Guida took him down repeatedly? He is going to be tough to beat.
Those kicks had the same effect that they had on Cerrone but Ben is a tough dude and tried to poker face thru. But I was like you. I could see on his face he wanted to collapse.
