Which actor/actress you wish had a better career?

Name actors or actresses you thought at certain point were destined for greater things, but ended up not going very far. Please exclude A-list actors that in your opinion made wrong choices in certain roles. those are or were still A-list.

Jason Scott Lee:



After his impressive performance in Map of The Heart of The world and his tour deforce leading role as Bruce Lee in 'Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story', I was expecting this actor to star in bigger films. Instead he did the semi-interesting 'Rapa Nui' and the entertaining, but not commercially successful 'The Jungle Book', but after that went to straight to dvd secondary stereotypical Asian roles. What the heck happened?


Natasha Hensdridge:

She was eerily sexy as Sil the creature from the movie 'Species'. She had a great 15 minutes as the It girl of the year the movie was released. I was expecting that her career was going to take off. Then she did the sequel...and that one practically kill her career. After that she has been getting secondary minor roles in movies and has been busy in tv, but nothing like the promise shown in her first film. Trivia note: do you know that the child actress that played young Sil in 'Species' was Michelle Williams in her very first movie role?

Michael J. White:

After 'Tyson' I thought that this actor was going to be for sure an elite actor. Yes, he did "Spawn' which wasn't very good, but at least was one of the first movie superheroes whose lead was a black actor so I didn't took that against him, but as a plus. Then came a string of really, really bad movies and an ocassional minor role in decent films. I still think he can have a better career, but seems doubtful at this point.

 

I don't really know that many actors. At least not by name.

He was great in Alfie.

 

Max Pomeranc comes to mind. He plays brilliantly in Searching For Bobby Fischer, and that was it. He never did anything else.

 

Brad Davis:

He had nice roles in tv dramas like 'Roots' & "Sybil", but his starring role in "Midnight Express" made him a recognizable face, even winning a Golden Globe as Best Actor. After that huge hit? a string of artsy films few people watched and a very minor role in "Chariots of Fire". In all fairness had he not died so young maybe he could have had a second chapter in his career and comeback to the spotlight and better role. Who knows...

Never expect a minority actor to have a huge successful career. It happens but it's pretty rare and in most cases doesn't last as log as a guy like Denzel Washington. Most guys seem to make a name for themselves for a few years but eventually flame out. You usually got to be white to really make it in Hollywood and even then there are no guarantees.

 

That seems like a lot, but now let's see you post all the white successful actors and compare. Plus quite a few of the names on that list can actually be a pick for "thought they'd have a better career".

He won the best supporting actor award (the kiss of death) and spent the next 30 years in B and C movies, despite his obvious quality

Chris Tucker?? What is he doing now?

Javier Bardem is WHITE

Rita Moreno was on The Electric Company by the late 60s and was a TV actress for the vast majority of her career

When is the last time Edward james Olmos was in a big hit Hollywood film?

Antonio Banderas, another white guy (people from Spain are white)

Sofia Vergara is a TV star

Cheech Marin??? Are you being serious? What movies has he starred in since 1979? Even those were screwball comedies, he was never a mainstream star or a leading man

When's the last time Chris Rock had a hit movie?

Tarji Henson? She's a character actress... What movie was she the star of?

Ricardo Montalbon??? His most famous role is Fantasy Island, for fuck's sake... He wasn't a movie star

Andy Garcia? When is the last time he was the star of a mainstream film, 1993?

Diesel and The Rock are mainstream action stars

Ice Cube is debatable... He's more of a second-billed, third-billed star

Some of the people I wasn't even sure of who they were (John Cho) so I had to look them up... I wouldn't have to look up an A-list movie star
