HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION KEN NORTON DIES

You need very decent power plus the ability to either evade all of his punches or take all of his punches. This is boxing, and Wlad is better at it than Kenny. If Kenny can turn it into a brawl and display a chin he didn't show versus Le Dough, Shavers, Foreman, Cooney, then he has an excellent chance. He's a better fighter, so he better turn it into a fight, and a lot of guys just as brave as Kenny and some of them a damned sight bigger have failed to do that. Let's be clear here, I see flaws in Wlad, and squirm when I see them at work in the ring, but he has excellent movement and a lot of talent. Some of his attributes, including his jabs, hooks and footwork might just be on a very short list as the "best of" this side of the last 20 years. And his chin isn't mush either. I bet Kenny would be out of it if Sam Peter smacked him over the back of the head. If he can't take LeDoughs thumb he sure as hell can't take all of Peters fist. To the back of his THIN skull.

In any event, Kenny would have to fight VATALI if he beat Wlad, so, like Kenny would be 60 when he died instead of 70.

Another thing I liked about Frazier Foreman and Norton was how EASY they were to listen to. Norton was as easy on my ears as he would be on a ladies eyes. I could listen to Ken Norton all night. Holmes and Ali got on my nerves. Especially Holmes.

Quarry was slow, small, limited, cut prone, easy to hit, no major speed or brilliance at all to him...good counter puncher, brave, when in shape a quite fit fighter....good chin, too good.

Did I say any of that? In the era of "Functional Marketing Tools", I would have thought height, weight, reach, power, speed and movement advantages over just about everyone you faced would give a guy a decent chance. You consistently take the WORST of the guy, the WORST of him on his WORST nights, and superimpose it over the entire vista.

Ron Stander, Quarry, Wepner, Le Dough and these other bums were the backing singers of the 1970's. All I said was that Wlad was good enough to wrestle for the Main Mic, period. Needless to say this is enough to bring you out in a rash. Of course Floyd looked great, he was facing a fucking punching bag with a haircut. A guy who's sole advantage over the likes of David Haye is to show a bit of clueless bravery. Haye has better wins than Canelo, thats for sure.

Quarry blew hot and cold. He could draw with Patterson one minute, get outright stopped by Chuvalo the next, or badly expose guys like Mac Foster or Lyle the next. I know this much, if he fought Wlad, I would not give him any great chance. I would give him a good chance, about as good a chance as I give Wlad. Wlad isn't going to just fucking fall over as soon as the first bell rings. He's going to have his moments and when you see guys like Jerry, well, Jerry had a lot of moments, Patterson moments, Chuvalo moments, Lyle moments. So who knows.

 

I'm kind of torn on Wlad, he really does have all the tools of a great heavyweight but he fights like a fucking prick. It is without question one of the worst heavyweight eras ever but if he tore through the opposition and delivered some pain, which he is perfectly capable of doing, then nobody could really have any complaints. He has no reason to fight like that against the current level of opposition.

 

Haye ran. If Haye had come to Wlad like Canelo attempted with Floyd, Haye woul have gotten laid out. Also your sig is sick.

He fights with his strengths, just like Frazier or Tyson did. Can't really blame him for that

 

I'm not talking about just the Haye fight, I'm talking Mormeck, Wach, Chambers etc. He has all the talent in the world, but he fights in the worst way possible. He should be going out there and obliterating these guys. It's incredibly frustrating because he has it all, ability wise. Oh, and thanks.

 

The way he fights currently gets him paid handsomely for little risk, so I can understand it. It won't get him respect from the majority of boxing fans though. He isn't taking out the rubbish like he's meant to, instead he's leaving it in the corridor by the door for far too long and letting it stink up the whole house, even though he could be an excellent binman.

 

Perhaps he fights the way he does to please the German crowds.

 

Well he does fill football stadiums fighting practically nobodies, unlike any heavyweight champion so I am not sure if he is worried about his respect.

I do see your point of course and even I, as the biggest Wlad apologist (apart from Irish, who is manic) would like to see him whack these losers out which he easily could. It is just that since he is very popular everywhere outside USA (which is completely out of the heavyweight picture anyways), he keeps winning easily and in the European articles he already is hailed among the top 5 heavyweights in the history, he has very little reason to change

 

It seems to. Germans were all over Henry Maske and Sven Ottke FFS.

Also, Wlad does actually get paid more if his fights are longer (I first thought this was mockery invented by Haye but he actually does, since more rounds means more commercial breaks). I am sure that is not the reason why he fights in such manner but it does benefit him

 

Norton was in this movie. It was pretty good too. Had an awesome ending.
