Jones is good with the kicks but not the punches. So he is throwing lots of kicks and getting tired quicker.
Whoever wins there needs to be a rematch. No doubt. I think Jones won too, but wont cry if Gus gets the nod.
Props to Jones, I tought he was going to lose by te middle of the 4th rounds, but he fought like a warrior to snatch the win. Stll, he have to works on his hands, it's by far his biggest weakness
I think this fight lessen the interest on a move to hw by jones. He seems a bit inept when he doesn't have a size advantage.
I dont think sized mattered. Boxing and reach is what messed him up. Jones will have the biggest reach in HW.
Agree with everyone RE: Jones hands. So many time Gus was open and Jones just couldnt or wouldnt let his hands go. Awesome fight. Rematch straight away.
He can beat a lot of heavyweights though. He'll still be big and much more skilled and athletic than the average. I had it 49-46 Jones. Perhaps Gus could've won the 1st but Im not convinced.
Disagreed, Jones was able to keep his previous foes by using his long kicks, and his superior strength. At Hw, I think most fight will manage to come inside and rocks his world with punches, since its defense is rather leaky. And he wont enjoy the strength advantage he has at lhw.
I don't agree the difference is Gustaffson's superior footspeed. Gustaffson is just very athletic, far more than the average HW. Most HWs are slow and lumbering...
I'm glad Gustaffson brought it to Jones though...he was being vastly overrated because of his glossy resume that is littered with names but little substance.
he was keeping gus away with the kicks. Problem is that they take alot of energy out of him. I think Jones neglected his boxing training, despite what he said in the interview.
GREAT Fight... Easily Bones Jones' STIFFEST Test Thus Faaaar, Bar None...BOTH Guys Bloodied, BOTH Guys Pushed to the Limit...w/All Due Respect to Glover Texeira, there Needs to Be an IMMEDIATE RE... REED Loooooooooooves Jones' Competitive ARROGANCE, but it Got the BETTER of him Tonight...Dude INSISTED On Trying to Beat Gustaffson @ the Stand Up Game...It Wasn't Until Jones was TAKEN DOWN for the 1st Time in his Career, that he Made ANY Effort to Take Gustaffson Down...Problem is, by Then, Gustaffson was CONFIDENT & he STUFFED the Majority of Jones' Takedown Attempts... To be Clear, Bones WON the Fight....Unanimously...But it was a 3-2 Decision AND, the 4th Round was Going Gustaffson's Way UNTIL the Cut Opening, Spinning Elbow which Hurt him & Swung the Momentum of the Round AND the Fight Itself...Bones Looked like he was in TROUBLE Prior to That Elbow... In Hindsight, Jones Seemed a Bit Toooooooooooooo Confident in the Build-Up for this Bout...In the RE, it Behooves Bones to Focus on TAKEDOWNS & GNP'ing the Living Shit Out of Gustaffson...REED Admires the BALLS it Takes to Want to Beat a Guy @ his OWN Game, but it Damn Near COST Jones his Title & Status.... REED
This isn't the first time Jones has struggled to take a guy down. He doesn't have an explosive shot. The best takedown I've ever seen from him was against the fence against Machida...but Gustaffson was obviously very prepared for that, and given his size and athleticism could avoid those with proper technique.
If REED is in Jones' Camp, This is HIS LAST Fight in that Arena...Not Sure WHY, but that Arena just DOESN'T Like Bones Jones... He was THOROUGHLY Outboxed, had his Eye CUT, Lip SWOLLEN... REED
great fight...always felt that a good boxer who could defend the takedown could beat Jones...also size was comparable which was needed to compete with a heavyweight jones. Though jones won using bursts of skill to steal some rounds. Gotta give him credit!!!
I said a year or two ago Jones's standup is hugely overrated, and it's his ground game that impresses me more. Ground game and overall ringsmarts I guess.
Why do you start every second post like that? Fucking Manny Steward... :: I am fucking shocked at the result. What happened? Did he even try to take him down??? LOL Phil fucking Davis needed one round...
