Just watched the fight again. The first round must be the best first round in boxing history and one of the best rounds of all time. Hagler's chin is one of the best ever. Absolute granite. He took some major bombs from an alltime great puncher without flinching.
Watch it. It will only take 3 minutes of your life
You guys down there in Turkey just getting this now? Are you also getting that new hot American sitcom I love Lucy?
. Marvin would have lasted four or five rounds with Foster, depending on how long Bob would have taken to set him up.
Hagler was a small, small middleweight, relative to the much larger, and big-at-the-weight Foster. Foster was a much harder man than Hearns, their willowy builds should not be confused. Tommy was always vulnerable, Foster only got blown out when he fought way outside his comfort zone. Foster also had a good right hand, which, at that weight, would have felt as good as Tommys. I like Foster inside the distance.
Not too many guys under 175 I would give much of a prayer of lasting with Foster, who hit almost comically hard with both hands, especially that ridiculous hook Hagler would have dominated and kicked the shit out of Julian Jackson and Julian couldn't knock him out in a million tries
Foster had an unusual build... He was very narrow shouldered, especially compared to Hearns... A lot of his weight was concentrated in his legs... He was sort of the mirror image of Hearns, both tall and thin but opposite tall/thin builds Foster just couldn't carry weight ... He wasn't meant to weigh 185, never mind 200... He was meant to be a Light Heavyweight... Amazing the difference between one guy and another ... I wouldn't give Mike Moorer a chance in hell of doing anything other than getting knocked dead against Foster at 175, but Mike Moorer could go up to 220 and look good there, competent, fit, a heavyweight... Foster would be vulnerable at Cruiserweight, never mind Heavyweight
I read that Hagler-Hearns was fight of the year but I've never been able to find even a highlight of it, let alone the whole thing.
Frasier destroyed him with monster left hook.
Since nobody has any clips of these fights can somebody write a play by play account of what you remember?
Joe was the best fighter in the world at that point in his career. No easy feat considering Napoles, Olivares, Ali, Monzon, Griffith, Benvenuti and Buchanan were all around at or near their peaks.
yes because Bob Foster had no business fighting heavyweights as you can plainly see by virtue of Frazier being approximately three times as wide as him
To my eyes, I think Mugabi hit p4p harder than Foster, Jackson, McClellan, and Hearns. Regardless, God hasn't built a man that can put up getting hit by these type of fighters without ever getting hurt. Also, Hagler wasn't a small middleweight. He looks like he was a juicer and was built like a brick shithouse.
This fight started my absolute hatred of Richard Steele. Is he dead yet? This thread made me look up whether Pat and Goody Petronelli were still alive.
Marvin Hagler had a great physique but he was not a big middleweight, unless one is attempting to state that his opponents happened to all be gigantic middleweights
mikE's post was completely stupid, why entertain him. Hagler was a small MW for sure. Have you guys heard about this guy Julian Jackson? I heard he could punch and did a number on a fellow named Herol Graham.
Julian Jackson was mediocre Middleweight, as far as titlists go... Graham is the biggest scalp he's got there and he was getting killed when he landed a desperation right hand (don't even try to argue that one, Trplsec!) ... Most of his opponents were absolutely horrendous
Graham was taking Jackson to school for sure. I guess I just fundamentally disagree with a punch being considered a "desperation" shot after 3 rounds with a proven puncher like Jackson. In actuality, the fight went kind of as expected. That being said, I am with you about Jackson's ranking as a MW.
