I'd accept your point if Leonard didn't thoroughly out-fight Duran in that 7th round.

Leonard/Duran II is like Jones/Hall, only Hall didn't quit.

Hardly. Duran was getting frustrated and lunging and Leonard was countering him using every inch of the oversized clown ring to full effect. The scores before that round were close to even on all three cards. The entire episode was a disgrace from the beginning of negotiations to the final bell and Leonard deserves less than no credit for it. Obviously I'm being facetious when I say Duran deserves any for it either but as the guy who actually wanted to fight rather than fastidiously avoid one in something more resembling a windswept canvas tundra than a boxing ring he comes away the more sympathetic character in my book.

As somebody who hates Wlad's pathologically avoidant bitch tactics so much im surprised you disagree.

The Duran laid down his career in a clown ring for our sins and on the 3rd year rose again, amen.

Of All the Fighters who've had SYCOPHANT Fan Bases, Duran TOPS the List...

REED's Heard MANY Excuses for Losses, Many Of them PARROTED by Fans of the Fighters who Lost....Tyson Fans, Tito Fans, Roy Jones Fans (ahem), etc...Still, it DOESN'T Get ANYfuckingWORSE than Duran Fans EXCUSING his SHAMEFUL Quitjob vs Ray Leonard...Not Even Close...

Duran was MINDFUCKED, EMBARRASSED, Wanted a Way OUT & FOUND It..."NO MAS"...To MAINSTREAM Boxing Fans, Roberto Duran's Existence Can Be Summed Up in those 2 Words...Sad, yet TRUE...

w/Out Question, Duran-Leonard II is an Example of a HUMILIATING Fight for Duran...

Duran and Don King held all the cards in negotiations for the rematch. You need to brush up.

Running away from a guy in a fucking tardis clown ring might well 'mind fuck' a guy who actually came to fight but it's about as hallow as victory in a combat sport can possibly get. If you want to criticize duran for not putting up with what he was subjected to have at it but remember which man actually cheated the fans out of the fight.

Easier to land when your opponent's forced to abandon a boxing stance and sprint after you

Duran cheated the fans. Leonard was right there, punching him in the face at will.

the fact that the fight was close makes it worse

guy quit in a fight he was still in

Duran's one of the ATGs and I don't think that moment comes within 10 miles of defining him, but I'm not going to give the guy credit for quitting in a fight he still had a chance to compete in

Essentially, BOTH S_D AND HUT are wrong

Leonard did fight like a pussy at times and he did use negotiation shenanigans

Duran did quit because things weren't going his way

    Yep...

& Instead of Harping On Some FICTIONAL "Clown Ring" Leonard ALLEGEDLY Subjected Duran To, How Bout CUTTING OFF the Ring, Roberto???...This was a Scheduled 15 Rounder...Even if Leonard was Moving Alot, Cut the Ring Off, Gradually Wear him Down w/Shots to the THIGH, Body, Wherever...ANYTHING...

The FACT is, Duran Not Only Quit, but he Quit BARELY HALFWAY Into the Fucking Fight...You're Damned Right he CHEATED the Fans...

Basically, Duran Fans are PISSY Because Leonard REFUSED to Fight in the Pocket, Which Caused him to LOSE the 1st Fight...It's like Robert Guerrero's Daddy BITCHING about Floyd Mayweather, After the Fact...

    LAME...

Yup, Duran can't cut off the ring. His whole career (and the first fight) was a testament to that.

No one said Duran can't cut off the ring. Leonard just didn't let him in the rematch... so Duran quit.

It's cool man. My favourite fighter never quit, but it's cool.

That's the thing, he WAS doing that successfully at times... He had a bad 7th round, but that's not the whole enchilada

That fight was close and competitive and Leonard was having his best moments when Duran inexplicably decided he didn't feel like working harder
