All clinching of course isn't illegal, just continuous clinching. And I'll repeat again that I am not sure if refereeing has changed all that much, I just think fighters now take more advantage of it. And also, it seems that every ref in the sport is incompetent since I don't remember Wlad ever catting even one warning

I feel like refs are quicker to break fighters now which is obviously massively counter productive in terms of discouraging clinching. I'm not sure whether the refs changing or the fighters changing is a bigger factor either but the responsibility falls on the officials to make the adjustment for the good of the sport, no. Ja.

Wlad isn't looking to hold, per se. Ruiz used to hold to get out of having to display any of of boxings fundamentals. Like punching.

Wlad is looking to drape his weight down on shorter guys and tire them out. If anyone can pick out a Sdunek-Wlad fight where Wlad is actively leaning on guys trying to tire them out, I would be glad to see it. Wlad was taught this shit by Manny, who developed it for the original heavy-boned Champeen, Lennox Lewis. Jab, right hand, lean on, uppercut, wash rinse repeat, take your man out by the by. What I never understood is how Steward got away with it but his fighters didn't.

If the objection is that Wlad is so capable of destroying people, with some added risk, and has the tools to do so, then I can see the merit in that argument.

But everytime he lost, it was an excuse to heap scorn on him or freeze him out of the game. When he let his hands go versus Brewster, and lost, he got zero credit. Nobody said "Oh well, he let his hands go, its what we want to see, fair play to him".

I said Wlad should have retired after the Haye fight. The British press threw up a siege around him before that one, and had to retreat in embarassment soon after. Loved it. He should have gone out on that and let the likes of Haye and Fury squabble over the left overs. Vitali, of course, needs to make money and so I can understand him staying on.

Punching on the back of the head is illegal, and its how Wlad found himself on the mat versus Peter. Loading your gloves is illegal, and Tito and Margarito were caught. Taking winstrol is illegal. Hanging around with Balco is illegal. Using gross advantages of bargaining power to drain opponents, select judges, manipulate weights etc, is all either quasi-ilegal or illegal. I keep saying it, if a biopsy of the lump in boxings bowels is properly taken, the histology of that specimen will reveal a lot more some weight-draping.

Klitschko isn't liked as he has had the temerity to stick around when it was commonly held that he wouldn't be around for too much longer.

I can't help finding cheat tactics designed to let you escape what you signed up to do especially.....annoying. Yeah, I know loading your gloves and punching people in the balls is objectively worse but I think escapology is more insidious to the sport.

Yes, I agree, but his escapology is fleeting and merely intersperses large periods of clubbing the other guy in the head. In the Chagaev fight, there was very little clinching and Wlad drew flak for not finishing Chagaev in a better fashion.Talk about hair splitting. Mike Costello himself said, in post-fight discussion {the BBC were somewhat obliged to discuss it as Haye had been originally scheduled for that date if you remember} that it was a strangely annoying but flawless performance.

This is where we part ways. I say we can and should criticize Wlad for his tactics when it's obvious his opponent has no chance and he refuses to open up. I find it more difficult to criticize a fighter like Ruiz (who I really couldn't stand and DID criticize a lot), who also did a lot of holding, but he didn't have anywhere near the skill set of Wlad. Ruiz HAD to fight in that manner to squeeze out (pun intended) wins at heavy. Wlad doesn't need to hold as much as he does to win fights, he has the tools to dispatch his opponents more efficiently...but he is apparently so concerned about being hit that he fights much more negatively than he has to.

Why don't you check out Wlad's record when he fought guys with "no chance" to beat him when he fought in the style you want him to.

Now check out his record when he fights in his current style.

    Yeah.

Imagine that...your response is to go to BoxRec. That is so unlike you...

You're not saying anything different than Ugo is...you're just being more of a douche about it. Imagine that as well...

You really are useless. You should take up a new sport. I wonder if Curling has it's own version of BoxRec.

That logic is applicable but only sparingly, or occasionally.

A for instance:1. Mormeck had no chance of beating Wlad. Wlad should have opened up, totally, from the beginning , all guns blazing. Fine, we can live with that.

    2. Chagaev had no chance of beating Wlad...Wlad should have opened up, totally, from the beginning, all guns blazing.....NO. He should have opened up at the end of the final round and laid Chagaev out cold, but, prior to that, taking on an undefeated and crafty southpaw on two weeks notice, when he had been scheduled to fight Haye, he did all the right things. The only place or time of that fight you can complain is when he had Chagaev trapped on the ropes at the end, a few of his left hooks there might have ended it in style.

    3. Ibragimov had no chance of beating Wlad. Wlad should have............no.....Wlad is not obliged to run around all night giving guys who have showed up for a pay day big chances to sucker him onto something big. Its not his fault if these guys, all very capable knuckle-men, decide to run and hide. Ditto Haye.

    4. Eddie Chambers.....ditto Mormeck. Wlad should have just said fuck it and gone for it, which he did initially. Chambers was knocked unconscious. As was Calvin Brock, who at least came to fight.

Now, by way of throwing something of a spanner in the works.......how can it be fairly said that these guys have "No chance of winning" if Wlad has no heart and no chin? When your chin is THAT BAD and when your nerves are THAT BAD, surely your opponents always have a chance of winning??? :dunno:Did Ali hold behind the head? Did Lewis brace the skull and lean-to?

But you're the guy who says Wlad's chin isn't so bad. And if you actually believe that, then to me that negates a lot of what you're saying here. When people say his chin is weak, you argue about it and say it's not terrible. And when people say he doesn't fight as aggressively as he could (and has before), now you're saying his chin is bad in order to defend his negative fighting style.

Nonresponsive to the points he made.

You are just a bitch and you don't like how Wlad fights. Admit it. Topic over.

And you continue to be the worst member this forum has ever had...by a wide margin. And your shitty attitude is just the cherry on top. Thanks, BoxRec, for making this dumbass feel like a man!

It must matter since you responded to me. if you didn't give a shit you wouldn't respond. Oh, wait...then you wouldn't get the last word. And it's obvious how important the the last word is to you...no matter how weak that last word might be.

@ESPNUK: David Haye v Tyson Fury in February is OFF after Haye undergoes shoulder surgery. Doctors have advised Haye to retire. More as we get it.

Fury should have some fun with this. He's been calling it all along and now Haye has fucked up a small piece of his career. The least Fury is entitled to is getting some free press off of it.
