ugh. What a shit fight. Povetkin, to his credit, didn't just mail in his performance. But he was in with a bigger, stronger & more skilled opponent who was allowed to hold and lean on him a ridiculous amount of times. Oh, wait...or was it "Masterful boxing" as the media in Europe would supposedly have us believe?

And as usual, I find myself having to be pissed at Wlad when he wins a fight by a mile due to his illegal and unnecessary tactics. It seemed to me that Wlad could have gotten Povetkin out of there much earlier, but instead we were "treated" to 12 rounds of slow dancing from Wlad with some punching occasionally mixed in.

And shame on the ref for letting Wlad do whatever he wanted to before finally taking a point away fwhen it was way too late to make a difference.

Man, sometimes I think you are even worse than Esk59 (aka watching a fight on "EskVision") when it comes to your own version of what goes on in the ring. You are obviously not a stupid person, so i guess it will have be chalked up to willful blindness.

Wlad's holding, again, is not actually holding. He LEANS on guys. You think this is semantics. Its not.

I agree, it was pretty turgid stuff, and I called it as such quite early in the fight, even after Wlad had sent Povetkin flying like a skittle in a bowling alley with that hook in the 2nd round. There is simply no need for Wlad to use the lean on. He was so effective with the left hand, especially on the back foot, that he should simply have backed up all night, nailing Povetkin at will. But lets not kid ourselves that he would have gotten any credit for that.

After the fight, I saw a video, posted it here, from a guy who was babbling manfully about Klitschkos "20, maybe 40 lb weight advantage". 16lbs was the weight advantage, which I am reliably informed was the same as the functional weight advantage carried into the ring by one Vicious Victor Ortiz, vs Mayweather. Of course, he used his 16lb advanage to such great function. ::

After the 5th, Povetkin started boring in, head first, bent at the waist, into Wlads midriff, and then grabbing. It was to avoid the lefts that were breaking him up into shit.

He was off balance all night, he never once got set to throw shots, something which of course has fuck all to do with holding.

Most of the knockdowns weren't knockdowns, but Povetkin would have gone down from the shots which precipitated his problems if he hadn't, ironically, grabbed to remain upright.

Again, I felt it was turgid enough. The overreaction though of the {predictably} Murican and British sectors is hilarious. Wlad beat fuck out of the guy and was light years ahead in all departments, and, as I say, after a certain stage, the holding was down to Povetkin, as he leaned over and bored in trying to avoid the left hooks.

You will have to stop calling it holding, for one. The only guy who ever had both hands on the other guys lats was Povetkin. Wlad LEANS on guys when they come in. They clinch to stay upright. Guess what, the only guy doing that was Wlad, as Povetkin was usually bending over, holding on, waiting for the ref to break them up.

I was really hoping that with Steward out of the equation, Wlad would go back to a measured version of his younger self. Unfortunately I think that 8 years of being told to lean on people has taken its toll.

PS the point came off for pushing. In the Haye fight, the point came off for leaning. And that was in the 6th round or so, plenty early to effect the fights course, if, of course, leaning was how Wlad primarily wins his fights.
