I really can't understand Neil on that one. Even stretching Devil's advocacy to its outermost I couldn't make a case for that

I don't give a shit what everyone here says or how much they cry when I say it, but JMM is a RICH MAN'S Ken Norton... He's better than Ken Norton (RIP), but he's similar in career... His rep is inflated by one man

Fuck this fight. You suckers can either waste your money on it or steal it, but you will be wasting your time.

Not only is it a shit matchup with the glow in the dark cheating bitch marquez, but Bradley should be coming off of two losses, one of those to a tough, but ordinary Provodnikov.

At least it has an excellent undercard. Oh yeah, it doesn't. It has a complete shit undercard.

    No thanks.

BETTER than Norton, as You Stated, but OF that ILK, for Sure...Marquez is Somewhere in that Norton-Frazier-Pryor Category of "Greatness"...

Like REED Said Earlier, your Career SHOULDN'T Be Terribly Diminished, by the Exclusion of a SINGLE Fighter, the Way Marquez's Would Be, WITHOUT Manny Pac...Marquez is Frazier WITHOUT Ali...He's Pryor WITHOUT Arguello...

Don't see what the problem is, in this day and age it's a great matchup. Interesting mix of styles, opinions are split on who wins, should be a good fight.

 I think it's a good fight but I agree it's ridiculous that it's on PPV. And with the shitty undercard they put on it's like they want it to bomb.

Nah he lost to Freddie Northwood and Christopher John and those guys and he lost to Barrera too except Marco hit him when he was down, and he lost to Pacquaio.....and Floyd never did anything with the weight or those packets of cash, Juan agreed to all of that, at least that was the OFFICIAL word.

    Yeah

By all means, debate or denounce the meaning of the fight, the methods or motivations of the participants, rage against the price, all of it... I have no issue with any of that

But I do think the fight, regardless, will be fun

Neil is obviously trolling a little with JMM but he is underrated around these parts. It's hardly his fault that his defining fights come against one guy. Anyone who thinks he lost to John is smoking crack - that was an outright corrupt robbery which went under the radar because it was in Indonesia or somewhere equally irrelevant - and he beat the shit out of decent fringe-level guys like Katsidis and titlists like Diaz and Casamayor who were about the best opposition out there at the time. He is also a fabulous combination puncher and is a rare modern example of a guy who stays in the pocket to throw them, often.

He's not the best fighter of the last 25 years, obviously, but he is a fucking very good fighter.

Agreed, he is downright underrated on Fightbeat. He's a stunning fighter. I didn't used to like Marquez much, when he was really a tactical counterpuncher with a good punch. But since he's become more aggressive, he's amazing to watch. Old school in the pocket counterpunching style, with oldschool ringsmarts and toughness. In fact, even his combos are kind of old school, way back when in the Ray Robinson era, fighters just used to let their hands go more - and reel off huge combos, switching from body to head etc. Marquez reminds me of that era.

I love Marquez, he's a true fighter, and despite having a lot of talent (great power, superb accuracy and timing, fludity, stamina etc) he's a guy who seems to rely more on skill and smarts than anything else. He's the opposite of people like Trashkhan.

To be honest I think he's the best Mexican fighter ever.

Since we're talking about Chavez, I'd like to see one of his opponents, the guy from the best cry ever video, face a 130 lb. Marquez

    Seriously, it's crazy

Without exaggerating at all, it would be a bit like claiming Miguel Cotto is greater than Wilfred Benitez, Wilfredo Gomez or Carlos Ortiz... It just ain't true

I'd rate JMM over Cotto, of course, to be clear

What win does Chavez has that even comes close to a clean KO over Pacquiao? Same question for Olivares and Sanchez.

Marquez is 40 years old and has arguably only lost to Floyd and Pacquiao, 2 of the best fighters ever. And the 2 fighters that have dominated the sport for years. He just scored his best win at almost 40 years old. When Chavez was early 30's, he was getting slapped around like he stole something from Oscar. Chavez has a lot of solid wins, but not one truly great win. Certainly not great enough to be considered the best Mexican ever, or top 5 of the most recent 25 years.

Chavez was an excellent fighter, I'm not disputing that, but he is ridiculously overrated. The fact that he gets mentioned in the same class as all time super elite fighers like Duran is laughable. Duran and Leonard would have both squashed him like a bug.

Marquez is hard to rate. Sure he is excellent, but he squandered years of his carer fighting no hoper, so its hard to gage him. I think hes a bit overrated, but hes still a fantastic fighter

Yeah he squandered years for sure, but he's more than made up for that imo. He's been on a brilliant roll since he's become more well known thanks to the first Pacquiao fight and the aggressive counter puncher style he adopted.

That's if You're AFFORDING Marquez EVERY SINGLE BENEFIT of the Doubt, Bro...

The Norwood Fight was Marquez's 1st HBO Fight, if REED's Not Mistaken...Both Guys were INTENTIONALLY Brought In to Position Themselves as a Potential Opponent for the Recently Acquired Prince Naseem Hamed...By the END of Norwood-Marquez, HBO All but Swore to NEVER Broadcast EITHER of their Bouts Again...& Marquez was the LOSER that Night, Bro...

Marquez has a HolyfieldESQUE Way of Fighting to the LEVEL of his Opponent...It DIMINISHED Holyfield's Greatness & Likewise w/Marquez...In Fairness, REED Rates Holyfield LOWER than Most Probably Would, Also...

Marquez has the 1 Punch KO of an All Time Great in Pacquiao, but a Ho Hum UD Loss to Norwood...ALLOWED the Fight w/Chris John to Be CLOSE Enough for him to Be "Robbed"...The Barrera Fight was ALOT CLOSER than Most Remembered...If ANY Fight Should've Been SCORED a DRAW, it was Barrera-Marquez...Marquez HO Hummed it vs.Rocky Friggin Juarez...FLIRTED w/Disaster vs. Juan Diaz (REALLY???)...FLIRTED w/Disaster vs. Katsidis (SERIOUSLY???)...

GOOD Fights, Yes, but Fights Marquez DIDN'T Necessarily Look "Great" In...For All of his Technical Wherewithal, Marquez is EASILY Drawn Into the Battle Plan of his OPPONENT...Marquez has had to OVERCOME More Adversity than a Guy of his Skillset SHOULD...

Call it a Lack of Ellite Level RING GENERALSHIP, if You Will...
