What you got? I'll list a bunch of names in no particular order to make things a little easier for everyone then I'll make my list later RJJ, Whitaker, Chavez, Lopez, Hopkins, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson, Morales, Marquez, Barrera, Toney, McCallum, De la Hoya, Trinidad, Mosley, Calzaghe, Mark Johnson
1) Whitaker 2) RJJ 3) Mayweather 4) Pacquiao 5) Chavez 6) Hopkins 7) Toney 8) Lopez 9) McCallum T) De la Hoya
Are we going from just 1988 forward? Or do the guys on there who were pros prior to that get credit for their pre-1988 careers?
Hmmm.......................How much do Jones recent travails count against him? Ditto Holyfields, ditto Pac being KO'd by one shot from guy on some sort of drugs? Known cheats like Evan Fields can fuck off, as can Pacquaio....JMM was clean most of the time, so a very worthy look, but has some losses that raise doubts.....I would let Jones off the drugs thing as it really was just for one fight. For me Whitaker McCallum Lopez Chavez Toney Lennox Lewis. Tyson Morales Riddick Bowe Jones. Fuck Oscar and Hopkins too.....guy lost twice to Germaine Taylor, and Calzaghe and fucking Doorson.....Oscar is a gimp, May wouldn't make the fights and was always cherry picking like fuck.
Yeah, let's DEFINE the Parameters...Brother Hut's Initial List Looks SOLID, but Let's Iron Out the Details... REED:mj:
Normally with decade lists I count fighters who first won a title in that decade then rank their career as a whole. But in this case, for no particular reason, lets just count everything anybody did from 1988 until today.
When you look at a guy like Whittaker, all coked up and shot and small and undersized, no just going the distance, but maybe even beating Oscar and doing very well against Trinidad, then it puts Roys losses in an awful perspective. The minute Roys reflexes went, he was easy pickings. Midget Whittaker, with a substance issue, and fighting much bigger men, noted men, pfp men, was still remarkably effective. I would put him way out in front, just for that alone. Whittaker had his jaw broken and was getting dropped by Trinidad and doing better than Vargas. :scratcher:
Hut's list does look solid apart from Chavez being in the top 5. No way does he deserve to be that high.
Finito should be at 10, to me, if he's on the list at all A good argument could be made that, despite his dominance and his aesthetically pleasing craft, he fought maybe 2 good fighters in his whole career I'd rate Hoya and McCallum over him in a heartbeat... They actually fought some good fighters
agREED... Finito's SKILLSET Says "Yes", but his RESUME Says "No"...Even Though he'd have Been GIVING AWAY Size, there were PLENTY of Opportunities to Fight Guys like Too Sharp Johnson, Johnny Tapia, Danny Romero, FADED Versions of Michael Carbajal or Chiquita Gonzalez... Definitely Could've PUSHED the Envelope More, Which Seems to ALWAYS Be the Case w/Guys who Retired Undefeated... REED:mj:
I regard all critics of my list as useless and dangerous. I'm away to buy more booze, post some lists for when I come back please.
Yar, yar, that is true. Of course one does have to bear in mind that Amir and Victor place somewhere in the top 900 to 1000 fighters of the most recent 25 years.
Not in any order as i'm too lazy and i hate doing that. On a first go around my top 10 would include Jones Jr. Pacquiao Chavez Mayweather Hopkins Whitaker Tyson Lewis De La Hoya Holyfield
Gotta say I agree on Lopez. He was a good fighter, and I have nothing against him, but I wouldn't have him even that near to the top 10. We just don't really know how good he was, he never faced an elite fighter.
