Martinez name kept being mentioned as the possible next opponent for Miguel Cotto after his victory over Delvin Rodriguez. Cotto stated he indeed dreams of being the first rican to win four titles in four different divisions. Martinez camp responded immediately with a 'Lets do it!' and even went so far to propose a catchweight of 158 lbs with Martinez title in line just to make it more attractive to Cotto. Freddie Roach mentioned he has the right strategy to beat Martinez and believes Cotto can do it.

Martinez manager met today with Bob Arum to discuss this fight and a clash between Chris John & Yuriorkis Gamboa.

    Thoughts.

    Makes sense business wise

Though I'd prefer to see Martinez get stretched cold by GGG

I'ma pick my boy Miggles, I reckon he can muster one more great performance and outhustle an old, warbeaten Martinez.

I wouldn't even give Martinez the credit of being shot - he was just never that good. His entire rep is based on managing to string a win over an alcoholic and a one punch KO together.

Martinez will beat Cotto if there is no catch weight stipulation. Cotto's leagues above Joonya in skill but he won't be able to take the kind of punches he did.

Are people forgetting that Cotto got his ass whupped by Austin Trout? Now suddenly, he blows out an ESPN level fighter like Rodriguez, and he beats Martinez? Even a faded Martinez is a class above Trout. I still pick Martinez to beat Cotto. I think Maravilla can muster ONE last very good performance. Granted, Martinez being so faded is the ONLY reason why Cotto has a chance. The Martinez of 3-4 years ago would beat the ever living Holy shit outta Cotto. Cotto-Canelo is a better option for Cotto. It's a bigger money fight, and Miggy has a better chance of beating the Ging than beating Serg.

I'd favour Serg. As Mex said, I think he's got one more big performance in him.

GGG would most likely destroy the current Martinez, but I am interest to see how he handles Martinez's power. His chin has yet to be really tested. Provided he handles Serg's left hand, he walks him down and batters him.

I have to concur with this assessment. I am a Cotto fan and will always root for him, but I think he will be an easier victim for Martinez than a rematch with lazy ass Mexican Chumpez Jr. I'll give him some chance (50%) against Canelo, but Martinez is just too big and too strong for Miguel.

Martinez is ripe for the KO. I think Cotto can stop him late on.

If anybody gets stopped late, it'd be Cotto. Miggy always fades late. Whereas Martinez has shown the ability to turn it up late. Whether or not he still has that ability we'll see.

Martinez is really showing his age in recent bouts. Cotto has a little bit more left in the tank, IMO

He looked good against Chumpez Jr. And while Chumpez Jr might be a talentless bum, he's a talentless bum with a good chin, who was MUCH larger than Martinez. I don't think Cotto handles those same shots. Trout hurt him for Christ sake. Martinez definitely can do big damage. He blew out DELVIN RODRIGUEZ guys. Only Delvin Rodriguez. Let's not overreact.

I suppose the size difference (Chavez Jnr) would eventually takes its toll, regardless. I just think Martinez has a lost a step, he didn't look the same fighter V Murray. I guess time will tell.

Cotto looked great but its was against a fighter that wasnt very good. It's hard to access if Cotto indeed is back. I guess we will find out when he fights a top fighter that can fire back. Martinez seems to be declining. Like mentioned if Martinez can muster up one more great performance, Cotto would have his hands full. It will be interesting to see what happens.

It will be an entertaining bout, no doubt about it. Only that even a faded Martinez can still stop a battle worn severely damaged Cotto (thanks to Margacheato's loaded bandages).
