Can anybody think of any good ones? I can't, really.

Can't even think of one as it happens. But then I've never been as big on heavyweights as the lower weight classes.

Seems like a good heavyweight's never been KOd by a bodyshot. Unless a 40 y/o Ron Lyle counts.

Really, though, Bodyshot KOs aren't really common in any division... You'd probably run out of them very quick

you can usually name one or two that happened at a high level in most of the other divisions tho

I distinctly recall Manny Steward admonishing Lewis for not throwing to the body in the first Holy fight.

Tyson Fury dispatched Martin Rogan with a very good body shot.

Although this is about heavyweights Roy Jones stopped Virgil Hill with a body shot.

    Y'all must have forgot.

Not a knockout, but can't forget that right hand to the body Tyson dropped Spinks with. That whole 91 seconds was just an awesome display of offensive talent. Mike first dropped him with a left uppercut to the head, followed by a right to the body. Spinks got up, threw a right hand which Mike slipped and simultaneously countered with his own right uppercut that ended. Mike made it all look pretty easy, but only a handful of fighters, heavys or non-heavys, had the talent to pull off that display.

That was like feeding a kitten without claws to a Rottweiler in a telephone booth.

Karl, in terms of raw power (beyond just technique) who would you have as the top 5 pure hardest hitters at heavyweight?

    Man, that's a tough one.

For sheer power: Liston, Foreman, Tyson, Shavers and Marciano.

In terms of technical power: Joe Louis.

I think most people would probably have similar lists. Although I'm not sure Marciano would make a modern list. I think both Lennox and Razor Ruddock probably had more one shot power. Pretty big difference in size.

It must have really sucked to get punched by him

That's all I think when I see him taking these poor bastards on a ride through Haymaker County:lol:

P4P, I think Marciano would certainly merit consideration, but otherwise I agree

Lewis was a murderous puncher when he sat down on his shots

Lewis was a bigger puncher than Liston.

It's weird seeing the clip of the old Foreman, he looks like a toughman with no skills, yet he annihilated some great skillfull HW. It's sad that he fall in love with his power, cause if he used the skills he displayed in his older years, with the pure force of nature he was when he was young, he would have been as close to an unbeatable HW as you could get.

Lewis' full force right hand is in contention for one of the hardest punches from a heavyweight ever

  29. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

    no doubt

That right hand that put Rahman to sleep was one of the greatest shots I've ever seen... Like a shotgun... He turned his whole body into that one

Lewis was a hell of a finisher, too, when he went for it

It's crazy... We have different examples of guys with awful technique and mechanics who were great fighters, but usually they were speed guys (Ali and Jones are the most obvious examples) ... Foreman looked to bludgeon people and it worked amazingly well
