Unreal card. I had money on Melendez and was pulling for Sanchez in the 3rd round. One of the most entertaining cards in recent UFC history. By the way, there is nothing boring about Cain's style against JDS because he never rest. He never stops doing SOMETHING. I find his clinch control and constant work amazing to watch.
sanchez is the most exciting mma fighter i've ever seen. it would've been awesome had he stopped melendez in the third. that was a very good card. i can't believe lombard vs. marquardt was shown on on the pre elim. anyways, cain's wrestling and ability to change levels prevailed once again. jds didn't really have an answer for cain's clinch game. velasquez is simply a better fighter all around.
Yep, after almost 10 rounds in the cage together, I don't need any further evidence that Cain is just plain better than JDS. And that's fine. I'd love to see Junior beat up Barnett, Travis Browne, Stipe, etc. Meanwhile Cain gets Werdum.
Well i dont see JDS beating barnet who will out wrestle him similar to cain. Both have similar styles. But i also see junior improving. I think Junior needs to change champs. Move to the states if he is really serious. Werdum vs. Cain will be a fascinating fight IMO. I cant even make a decision right now.
Honestly there is nothing to suggest that Barnett cant do to JDS what Cain did to him. NOTHING. They fight very similar except Barnet will go for the submissions once he takes JDS down.
I compared what Barnett did to Mir to what Cain did to JDS. Push him up against the cage and punish him. That is Barnett's specialty and he is much stronger than Cain.
Who has Barnett beaten that gives you any confidence he can't beat JDS? Barnett's best win is probably Mir, and the Mir he fought is a shell of a fighter who was only so good anyway. TFK
The Barnett that lost 3 times to Cro Cop doesn't stand a chance in hell against JDS. There isn't another HW in the world that has the cardio to carry out Cain's game plan against JDS. Certainly not Josh Barnett. Cain had a hell of a time taking JDS down in the 2nd fight. There is no way I see Barnett having more success with takedowns than Cain. Lastly, you are seriously under selling Cain's ability to close distance. He didn't get into those clinches by accident. His speed and footwork are far better than Barnett's. Barnett will get tagged repeatedly trying to do what Cain did. I think JDS brutally beats the JuiceMaster.
I would say his best win was randy couture or Big Nog. But that being said, i dont see why that would even be brought up. I think Barnett has only ever been KOed once and that was back in UFC 35 i think. again, if cain, who is not as strong as barnett, can push nog against the cage and pound on him. So Can Barnett. Barnett's dirty boxing is better than Cain's also. And when, not if, Barnett takes JDS down, he will take his back and submitt him the way Cain should have done.
Dont see it. Sorry. I see Josh handling this version of JDS. Unless JDS falls out of love his power and begins to use his BJJ and actually starts working on some Wrestling, Barnett will win.
You keep saying Barnett is stronger than Cain. I doubt he is. Most top-level wrestlers are stronger than fuck. Cain seems typical in that regard.
So you guys thing Barnett would win the grappling battle if he stepped in the cage with Cain. To me that is ridiculous. Cain is in a completely different magnitude of MMA wrestling than Barnett. It's almost like you guys didn't see how Cro Cop manhandled Barnett in their last fight. And Cro Cop is a small, weakling compared to JDS.
Cormier has a pretty damn good record now. Clear wins over Bigfoot, Barnett, 2 BIG heavyweights, as well as Mir and Nelson. What's funny is how he looks. He's like a black Fedor, just this flabby, unimpressive looking little dude.
I dont think Barnett would win a grappling match against cain. I think it would be a tough fight. I do think he will beat JDS tho. While i think Barnett is stronger than Cain, Cain is a beast with great cardio and accurate hands.
yup. Reminds me of Fedor too. But he isnt flabby no more. He came in a 224 yesterday. Very slim compared to his usual 240. And his next fight will be at 205.
Being stronger doesnt mean he will win. Brock is stronger than Cain and that didnt mean shit. BTW, cain recently said Brock was more dangerous an opponent than JDS.
I don't think his wins over Mir and Nelson were very impressive. Compared to the way JDS beat them both, Cormier looked average. By the way, my money says Cormier will ruin his MMA career by going to 205.
JDS seemed terrified, and just couldn't deal with pressure of Cain. He was too worried about the takedowns to throw enough punches. JDS should give up on ever fighting Cain again. It's not good for his health.
I think his win against barnett was pretty damn impressive for what little fights he had prior. his win against mir wasnt impressive, but i give him a pass.
While I think there are good matchups like Werdum out there, the way that Cain utterly dominated Dos Santos makes me have a hard time believing that anybody will be able to zap him like Dos Santos did in their first fight. Perhaps Overeem could with his striking, but I have a hard time believing Overeem wouldn't just get taken down and pounded out faster than Cigano. Too bad Carwin retired. Also too bad he didn't have the physical issues he had. His wrestling and punching power would have made things interesting, but he probably would have just gassed out even at his best. He just seemed to carry too much muscle to sustain his wrestling and movement for 3 rounds let alone 5.
i agree that cutting weight for cormier isn't the best move for him. it'd be different if the guy was in his mid to late 20s, but he's 35 and hasn't been close 205 since the 2008 olympics.
And he almost died doing it in 2008. I agree with Anthony that it seems like Cormier is slowly getting down in weight which will eliminate a drastic cut but I just think it will zap him regardless. There is conversation that his first fight at 205 could be against Gustaffson. If so, Cormier ruins his promising career.
