Hard to believe Machida's debut at 185 flew under the radar. Watching the main event live right now. The card is being broadcast in Primetime on Fox Sports 2. Also, WSOF 6 is on NBC Sports tonight as well. Josh Burkman defends the title he won by choking out Jon Fitch. He's fighting Steve Carl who is a decent fighter that previously fought in Bellator. DVR is busy today with these cards and the Hopkins card on Showtime later.
Now THAT is how you make a debut in a new weight class. Machida should be at 185. And he went right at Munoz. It's a much more exciting version of Machida.
Hmmmm. I thought Berkmam-Fitch was for the WSOF belt. Guess not. Tonight's fight was for their first champ at 170.
Machida is too tactical sometimes hence why loses these close decisions. I think it's somewhat to do with Rua knocking him out cold back in the day ( I still can't believe Rua of all people had Machida's number) Machida has a great skillset, and should concentrate on offense more so than defense. I want to see Machida versus Belfort with the winner facing Weidman. Are Machida and Belfort friends? I don't think so since Machida is homies with Anderson and Anderson and Belfort kinda hate each other. That would be a good fight.
Fuck glow in the dark Belfort. Munoz had a great game plan. Let the rangier, better striker walk you down as you stay just inside his range, throw nothing to keep him off of you, don't go for any takedowns, eat a kick, lose. Neither wanted to be fighting the other, but at least Machida showed up. I can't believe Munoz doesn't have some success against Machida when they are training together and I can't believe that that success is ever by doing what he did.
Rua was an excellent fighter back in the day's, and even if he was past his best when fighting Machida, he still was better than him. Nothing to do with him having his numbers. As for the fight, I don't put too much weight on it because imo, Munoz is pretty much garbage.
