Twenty Years Ago Today: Bowe-Holyfield 2...

Commander Vander, Big Daddy, and Fan Man all came together on this date 20 years ago. Hard to believe it's been 20 years. Bowe's entourage pulled the guy off the ropes and were pummelling him with a walkie-talkie. Good thing he was wearing a helmet.

20 years, man...hard to believe it's been that long.

It was the worst fight of the trilogy, which says much since it was an excellent bout. Holyfield had a great plan of battle that night and he was ripping Bowe into pieces early on. I am still convinced (being a big Bowe fan) that without the break Holyfield would have ran out of gas and Bowe would have prevailed in the late rounds

 

The guy killed himself not that long afterwards-the parachute fan man

 

Fan Man died about 10 years after that fight. It was pretty long afterwards.

 

Bowe deserved the decision. The guys who pummeled fan man were assholes.

This was the last time Rydell watched a boxing match

 

as a Holyfield fan I was thrilled by the outcome. Fight number III was painful to watch since Holy was doing so well early on until he ran out of gas so soon.

 

Those were the glory days, though.

 

Holyfield had a cold/diabetes/hole in his heart/brazilian aids/hepatitis/took too many vitamins.

 

Much better than our current crappy heavy division. 20 years from now, no one, except maybe you, will be reminiscing about this time in the division.
