Quartey was no test, he wasn't even in full time training. He was not the fighter that Oscar had floored twice. As for Wright, I cannot give Vargas that fight.
I never said he waddint. I just said that YBC is the best WIN Vargas had. Youngest ever 154lb champ, stopped the guy quite handily, didn't visit the mat like Trinidad had, probably turned in as good a show if not better than Oscar did years later. By the time Vargas got round to fighting Quartey, he was a good bit more matured, a good bit more seasoned, and Quartey wasn't much more than a still-dangerous, part-time fighter. And I don't have Vargas down as winning the Wright fight.
I've always had Vargas-Wright a draw. I think if anybody edged it, it was Winky, but it was extremely close and in my eyes a draw. Winky wasn't robbed in that one. He was robbed against Taylor though. That fight was a clear win for Winky.
Because of all of the talk about Vargas-Wright was a robbery I decided to download it and score it myself a number of years ago. (I had never seen it before) Not the most memorable of fights, but I recall having Winky ahead by one point going into the last round which Vargas won. Hence a draw.
Vargas-Winky was actually one of the more watchable Wright fights. I had it a draw too, which means you can't discount it from the Vargas resume. It wasn't a robbery, I would have had no problem with a draw or win for either guy in that fight. Close fights happen, Vargas got the decision, which automatically makes it a better win than Campas as Winky was a substantially better fighter than Yory Boy.
Irish is talking out his ass as usual. A young Vargas was a very, very good fighter. He was thrown in with Tito too early.
Yori boy is not a total bum.. Imagine Yori boy vs Hanzy panzy YORI Would knock Hanzy out in prolly 1 or 2 rounds and go to work on his curry terds with a spoon!!!
