    So what? The band isnt from NYC, didnt play NYC clubs, didnt associate with NYC musicians in a NYC scene. It did all that in gay-LA and developed a lovely smooth relaxed sound surrounded by CACTI.

    :scared2::lol:

    The rest of the guys in the first incarnation of the band were all from New York and many of the LA Session guys were New Yorkers who went there because that's where the work is, where the studios are... Their songs are LITTERED with dismissals of LA and its culture... The only warm Steely Dan songs are the ones dealing with... TA-DA! NEW YORK... Their hatred of LA and the irony of LA containing all of the studios and musicians they liked to use (thus forcing them to spend inordinate amounts of time there) is a recurring theme in their work and in their own discussions of their lives and career.

    LA = The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Dan Fogelberg...

    The above couldn't have less in common with Steely Dan if they were all Death Metal artists

    From what ive heard of both Steely Dan are definitely better and less gay than Jackson brown and with a more diverse 'undercurrent' that comes through in more complex rhythms and harmonies, but apart from that it's similar stuff. I'm certain they'd get played on the same radio stations and bars, put it that way.

    I dont wanna fight no more. But for the record tastekid & musicmap (based on fan ratings) have Jackson Browne in their top 'similar artists' for Steely Dan, so if Im daft Im in the majority.

    Anyway, Arcade Fire were really good tonight. Regine dancing in her tight fitting metalic disco outfit. Uh yeyeye. I need to find me a thick set girl with curly hair and a catholic taste in music. The guy beside me (originally from Glasgow) had flown in from Melbourne to see them and spilled a little of every pint in his zone of terror. His friend kept apologizing to me for him which was sweet. And telling me he wasn't gay. Several times. Here, just looking mate, he's safe.

    Nearly all the music I like most right now is music my folks or my auntie/uncle played when I was a kid. Any psychologists in the house?

    Could we have picked a more 'UK' (/irish) act than Morrissey and a more 'US' act to compare and contrast, btw? Both are so peculiarly of their countries I doubt anyone on the other side of the atlantic completely understands them. I know latino gangbangers seem to love Morrissey but God knows what thats about. Some things translate really easy but some things never fully go over i think in my mind

    I'm no fan of Dr Who but the original theme tune by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop is probably the greatest piece of electronic music ever conceived.

    You had sexual relations with your cousins in their room while your aunt and uncle were playing music completely unaware.
