Reid was talented, though flawed. Plus his bad eye.

But in Canelo he faces a guy who though strong, is slower, not very aggressive, nor active, and who doesn't punch like a Trinidad or anything.

I think the Reid who fought Boudouani would decision him clearly.

I'm with PR. I don't think Canelo has what it takes to expose Reid's flaws. Beyond his eye, Reid's flaw was poor stamina. Canelo's stamina ain't too impressive either, and unlike Tito, who's CONSTANT pressure and deadly power, Canelo is a spurt fighter with good, but not great power. I think pre-Tito Reid possessed the handspeed and skills to outbox the Ging, while keeping him honest with his right hand.

Reid was a pretty shitty fighter, really... He's not really much better than Alvarez, if at all

Reid would have to be cautious for sure.

But styles wise, I just like this fight for Reid. We can point to the Tito fight and agree that Reid was exposed, but does anyone see Canelo doing any better against Trinidad than Reid did?

    I certainly don't.

Reid had handspeed and a big right hand. Canelo has red hair and body fat.

That's such a black and white way of looking at things, boxing just doesn't work like that

Reid did not have a "big right hand"

His flukish gold medal notwithstanding, guys with "Big Right Hands" don't have a 50% KO rate after 14 pro fights against mostly awful opposition the way he did

Reid hit hard enough to keep Canelo honest, and buzz him if he got too reckless. That'd be good enough. He doesn't need the right hand power of Hearns in order to beat the Ginger.

Reid did very well in the first half against Tito, until Felix finally warmed up and found the range, and after that it was a one sided battering. But the gap between Canelo and Tito is just ENORMOUS.

I'm not saying Reid would white wash Canelo, but I see no reason why he couldn't win a close, yet clear decision.

Canelo is awful. He should retire after that Floyd fight. He embarrassed both Mexicans and Irish people.

The guy was handicapped. His walking into punches and his not landing punches were related concerns, as in related to his shitty eye.

If Canelo was a big time pressure fighter with a decent gas tank I'd pick him no question.

But he isn't. He's a spurt fighter who spends more time trying to conserve energy than he does throwing punches.

Its hard for me to see Canelo winning even if Reid isn't pound 4 pound material.

For all his handspeed and skills, Reid was easy to hit. Canelo beats him UD.

I disagree. Reid wasn't a great fighter, but he was a lot more talented than Canelo. He also knew how to stay away from dangerous punchers when he had to and I think he just underestimated how dangerous Tito was. That being said I think he'd easily out box the plodding limited punching Canelo for a majority decision win.

I don't think he underestimated anything... he simply hadn't fought a good fighter before he fought Trinidad

Reid would've gotten taken out long before he got to Trinidad-level fighters if his career had taken a normal track and not the carefully managed track of an Olympic Gold Medalist... He was vulnerable from the get-go

Yeah Reid had just never fought anyone with the experience and punching power of Trinidad. His competition was really poor too. Prior to Trinidad his best win was over Laurent Boudouani. I think his management knew that he was gonna have a short career too so they cashed in on him when the chance presented himself.

Still think he'd be too quick and slick for Canelo, though.

Just wanna check that you're implying there'd be some home cooking involved, because otherwise this statement makes no sense.

I'm pretty sure Mike Tyson would easily run rough shod over the skittish haye, demolishing him via Split Decision

I'd fancy Alvarez here. And also think he'd win.
