Exactly , so now it's a valid excuse to avoid a fighter because you don't like his promoter ? That's beyond ridiculous
Yeah, I can't believe people here think it's a valid justification for not making the fight :: Maybe Martinez should refuse to fight Golovkin because he doesn't like the name "Gennady".
The part in bold is pretty much all you need to know about Floyd's motivations. Margarito is shit now, but everybody and their mother saw him as a much bigger threat to Floyd at the time then DeLaHoya. Floyd wanted nothing to do with an in his prime natural Welterweight threat at that time. In the end it was a smart business decision because of the money involved, but Margarito was just one of several natural Welters that Floyd wanted nothing to do with at that time. As far as the Pac situation, I never really thought either one of them wanted to actually fight each other at any point. Floyd was afraid of not seeing something coming from a fast power southpaw, and Pac was afraid of being caught completely out of his element, from a technical stand-point. I think Floyd makes mince-meat out of Pac, at any point in their careers, but Floyd obviously didn't think the same. Right now, at this moment, Pac might want the fight more because he has nothing to lose.
it also should be noted that mayweather jr made more vs alvarez then he would have at any point in time from a pacquiao ppv
I remember reading on several occasions that Floyd, as stated in interviews, has other people handle his social media contacts. That is the only proof I am aware of
Floyd Mayweather vs. Emmanuel (also known as "Manny") Pacquiao was a highly anticipated fight that never happened.
Who really cares? Jesus. Do you honestly wake up and have delusions that a prizefighter is going to be concerned about the perceived threats to him by keyboard typists? He fought Oscar because the fight almost literally made his career as we know it and transcended him to a megastar. Margarito was just another guy. If you needed some deep underlying message to explain any human being's motivation for attempting to earn millions of dollars you likely slept on a nuclear reactor last night. It doesn't need to be stated, it's quite obvious.
Well I think the public care because, you know, we like boxing and want to see the best fights. I mean, I get it, it makes sense from a business perspective, good for Floyd and all that, but as fans we're more concerned with good fights than fighters bank balances.
I think the public was far more interested in the mega-fight. Hence it set PPV records. No, not everyone and their mother knew Margarito was the bigger threat because no one's mother knew who the hell Margarito was.
No Need to Be a DICK, TLC...Last Time REED Checked, NOBODY @ Fightbeat Would Be Classified as a "Mainstream" Boxing Fan, which is the Sect that Gravitated Towards Floyd-Dela...HARDCORE Fans have Loooooooooooooong (& RIGHTFULLY) Criticized Floyd for NOT Pushing the Envelope in Regards to CHALLENGES...It SHOULDN'T Have to Be Stated, as it's Quite OBVIOUS...
The MAINSTREAM Public, ie., the People that DON'T Care Enough to DEBATE the Matter on a Boxing Messageboard...
i seen to recall plenty of ppl here had interest in a shitty mayweather jr vs delahoya fight. honestly i didnt expect it to be entertaining, nor did i expect mayweather jr vs margarito to be entertaining. at that point in time when arum was attempting to force feed the fight upon mayweather jr, margarito hadnt done a whole lot. his resumé was no better thank spinks back then.
REED Didn't Mind the Dela Fight...Dela was Boxing's Version of the LOTTERY @ that Time...Then Hatton Came Thereafter, which was Also Fine... But the PATTERN that Nobes is Talking about REALLY Began when Floyd Started the "Retirement" Bullshit Only to "Return" & Cherrypick... REED:mj:
personally i think he retired because his hands were not good and he just made about 10 times as much money in two fights that year vs delahoya and hatton as he had in the rest of his career combined.
It is more or less amusing that people actually have the feeling that fighters should care about appeasing the so called "hardcore fans"... The hardcore fans who do nothing but complain about everything, bash every fighter, bash the era entirely and stream every pay per view. Fighters should totally care what "hardcore fans" think...:notallthere: Floyd should stop being one of the most well of sportsmen on the planet taking minimal damage and risk his life and career to appease cynical old men across the internet who will send each other webstreams of his fight and then make a mythical matchup where he gets KO'd in 6 by a guy who died years ago.
What's THE NAME of this Site, Dude???... Again, this is a BOXING Messageboard, Comprised of HARDCORE Boxing Fans...This is a Vehicle for Us to "Voice" OUR Opinions...Not Really Sure WHY the Irks You OR Why You Have to Be a Fucking PRICK In the Process... Floyd Can Do Whatever the Fuck he Wants, but when it's All Said & Done, his Place in HISTORY will Be Determined by HARDCORE Boxing Fans who WILL NOT Treat him as Favorably as he Hopes...Floyd SAYS "Legacy Don't Pay Bills", but We'll See in 20 Years...When he's NO Loooooooooooooonger Able to Fight, Legacy will Be ALL Floyd Has...& He'll Have HIMSELF to Blame when Manny Pacquiao's Name is ALWAYS Mentioned in the SAMEfuckingSENTENCE as His... REED:hammert:
in 20 years people will forget circumstances and see mayweather shut out the guy who put pacquaio to sleep. his resumé will be looked upon favorably down the line
Wow! HolyNight, you've opened my eyes. Guess there's nothing else to to say. I don't even know why I visit this site anymore. There's nothing left to debate. Floyd is the Gratest Lb flid Lb #1 Eva! You just Rib-roasted me into a higher consciousness!
That's the Narrative Floyd will ATTEMPT to Write, for Sure...Unfortunately for Him, he WON'T Be a Mainstream Figure in 20 Years, so THE ONLY People Willing Or Able to INTELLIGENTLY Discuss his Career Exploits Will Be HARDCORE Fans like Fightbeaters... Hardcore Fans Already DON'T Buy Into the "Floyd Shut Out the Guy that KO'ed Pac" BULLSHIT...No Reason to Think Hardcore Fans will, 20 Years Down the Line Either... REED:hammert:
mayweather jr will be regarded as a great fighter who had a greater career than pacquiao in 20 years.
Also no, Floyd's celebrity status will certainly not hang in the balance of internet keyboard warriors. Secondsout and Eastsideboxing never put a dime in a fighter's pocket. These things are fun to discuss sure, but the laughable part is people greatly overstating the value of their own collective opinion...with an almost arrogant defiance that their opinions on what Floyd "should" have done are actually relevant. Furthermore, Floyd will likely still be in the business in 20 years an his legacy will be favorable to the people who matter...ie: the people who are currently lining his pockets.
You're Really CLUELESS as to How this All Works, Aren't You???...What's Floyd Gonna Be Doing that's BOXING Related, in 20 Years???...He WON'T Be Fighting, Damn Sure WON'T Be Commentating...From the Moment Floyd fought Dela, GOLDEN BOY has Been his OFFICIAL Promoter of Record...You DO Realize "TMT" is a FAKE Boxing Promotion, Right???...So SCRATCH Promoting from the List of Things Floyd'll Be Doing 20 Years from Now, as Well...
Fuuurthermore, What INCENTIVE Will there Be for those "Currently Lining" Floyd's Pockets to CONTINUE Doing So, 20 Years from Now???...Floyd's BURNED BRIDGES w/HBO, so it's DOUBTFUL they'll Speak Favorably about him, in the Future...Like it or Not, WRITERS, ie., HARDCORE Boxing Fans Have Some SWAY on a Fighter's Legacy...People will NEVER Forget that he WILLINGLY ALLOWED the Biggest Fight of his Career to NEVER Happen, by his OWN Doing...There's No Way that CAN'T Hurt Floyd's Legacy...
