Don't forget many people don't purchase ppv, but purchase right from UFC.com. Those numbers don't count as ppv. And white has said he eventually wants to stop doing ppv altogether.
Wait, did TFK call Nick Diaz one dimensional? That's funny. A high level BJJ black belt with some of the best boxing in the in the division and that's one dimensional.
Yeah but like i have been saying Nick's BJJ has been abandoned a long time ago. He is now just a one dimensional cry baby.
Any idea what you mean by 'many'? It can't even be 5% of the ppv buy rate, can it? I'd guess even less than that. White doesn't make mistakes too often, but killing the UFC ppv model will be a mistake. PPV makes an event special. Even though the UFC has tried its best to make the UFC ubiquitous and not special, it still gets crowds at bars during ppv's. This is the holy grail and giving it up would be a huge mistake. The bar crowd is what synergy is all about. It's a hard thing to achieve, but the ufc has gotten it. It would be a monumental fuckup to give it up.
The UFC doesnt release the numbers, but i gather since they are still doing it and the number of computer related programing viewing is increasing, it's more than likely profitable for them. As far as PPV being exciting, it's not more exiting that the superbowl which is free.
Yeah I'd like to hear about the nordic countries. Germany is tied with the UK for biggest european TV market for boxing but UFC we got nothing. You can't even watch it here and nobody has ever heard about Dennis Siver... ::
I don't think Ronda could armbar Nick Diaz or his standup would be useless against her, p4p and gender4gender speaking.
Damn straight :bears: She's even got the downright absurd, toddler esque mean mug and strut, just like Nick.
The UFC makes enough money to have some pet projects that don't have to be overly successful in order to keep their stranglehold on the sport intact. I would agree that it's either not losing much, if any, but I doubt it's making too much. Superbowl is once a year, culmination of a season, tradition, most popular sport in the USA. Not a fair or good comparison to counter with.
If it wasnt making money i dont think they would start up the uFC digital subscription they just started. Superbowl maybe once a year, but monday night football is every week and they make great ratings and can charge a shit load for commercials.
Yep. Regardless whether you think Diaz has good or great boxing and BJJ, the bottom line is that he is well-versed in both. He's knocked out good strikers and he's done very well in top level grappling competitions.
The Decisionator got hurt again, and the UFC finally did what they should have done years ago and stripped him of the title. Faber steps in and gets 'another' title shot. TFK
Decently. If you count the 7/5 event on the first half of the year it helps a lot because it's the best event, I think, since the New Year's Eve show. The current TUF is terrible.
There have been some decent cards and some really entertaining bouts. I would assume it's been a financially disappointing first 6 months. In 6 PPV events this year, 350k buys for the Jones-Texeira card is the high watermark for the UFC. Compare that to the first half of 2013 where the UFC had almost 1 million buys for GSP- Diaz and another 500k for Rousey-Carmouche, and 2014 seems pathetic. But this weekend's card will be huge and the Jones-Gus rematch in September should create a solid 2nd half rebound. That being said, the missing power of GSP, Silva and Cain has yet to replaced.
