12 Years A Slave Rainmaker-like review: best film of the year!

 

Ok, seriously now: this is an excellent film, perhaps the best film on the subject on slavery ever made. Great performance by the main actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who deserves anm Academy Award nomination for this role. also shinning in this film are the performances by Bennedict Cumberbatch as a good hearted 'master' who shows compassion to his slaves and Michael Fassbender who is a marvel to watch as the not-so-kind second 'master'. Brad Pitt plays an Amish carpenter who is key in the climax of the plot, but his role has little screen time and was merely acceptable. The film is brutally honest in the depiction of how slaves were treated and if this film doesn't win Best Picture of the Year, the Academy will be mocked for years for that mistake.

 

Of course it will win Best Picture....but not for the fact that it is actually the 'best' picture, for obvious reasons,

Very, very good movie. Much better than I expected.

Don't let your white guilt overrate this film. It was pretty good, but far from great. This was no Django Unchained. Wolf of Wallstreet was by far a superior movie. This one was pretty aimless, and boring. Did that girl really get an Oscar for her role? She was good, but hardly in many scenes at all. 7/10
