I'll just name a few off the top of my head:

Hackman in The Conversation
Deniro in Raging Bull
DDL in There Will Be Blood
Hopkins in Silence of The Lambs
Crowe in A Beautiful Mind

Denzel - Training Day
Christoph Waltz - Inglorious Basterds

 

Even though it was just a supporting role, Denzel in "Glory" is the first one to come to mind for me.

Hard to argue Daniel Day in "There Will Be Blood". He made you not want to take your eyes off the screen.

Not sure I could ever pick the "The Best Ever" though.

 

Maria Bello for making her attraction to William H. Macy in "The Cooler" believable.

 

Alec Baldwin played a very good villain in that movie.

 

Hackman in "The French Connection"

 

Also, I prefer DeNiro in "Taxi Driver"

Pacino's best is "Dog Day Afternoon", IMO

 

I thought Pacino was better in Godfather II
Meryl streep in Sophie's choice was pretty amazing
Daniel Day Lewis in In the name of the father
Gene Hackman in The conversation
Denzel in Malcolm X
Ralph Fiennes in Schindlers list
I love de Niro in King of comedy but Taxi driver has to be the quintessential Deniro performance
Peter Sellers - dr.Strangelove
Also Heath ledger does deserve a shout for Joker that was fucking amazing

He was awesome in DDA but his tendency to 'chew the scenery' got indulged a little too much. Still heavy good though.

 

Pacino might have been at his VERY BEST in "Glengarry", tbh.

 

Denzel Washington as Malcolm X. Denzel carried the entire movie. A brilliant performance.

 

he was great in that, for sure

 

Denzel and Hackman were BOTH brilliant in Crimson Tide.

A very underrated performance.

I liked Mean Gene in this scene from "Mississippi Burning"
