anyone i talk to doesnt really give a shit about andre ward. whether he ever fights again or is televised anymore. where as most boxing fans tend to love golovkin and cant wait to see his next fight. ward is hoping to lure guys up in weight either golovkin or chavez jr. i dont see ward as having leverage AT ALL. his ratings were worse despite double or triple the budget.

That being said. I kind of agree with REED here? Saying Andre Ward has no leverage at all is stupid. He has gotten away with having bad ratings a lot because he keeps winning against the very best fighters in the world. Why should he think he deserves less now unless he learns it by no TV channel giving him that type of money anymore.

Golovkin gotten paid bad all the time but sure let Andre Ward be the first fight to change that and out of Ward's pocket on top of that. I'd say fuck that shit, too if I was Ward. That being said I can see the reason for a lot of guys to duck Golovkin (guys like Chavez for instance) so REED should go a little easy on him.

It is true that TV ratings is more important for promoters than ticket sales these days, and by far too. It is also true that Golovkin is a guy that few middleweights want to face: his record isn't all that, but most top middleweights know about his capabilities, he is "not your average" contender.

All that being said, REED is absolutely correct that Ward deserves bigger purse if these two ever met, the edge in achievement is so vast in favor of Ward that he has no reason to accept just any offer.

 

golovkin hasnt gotten paid bad. he is new on the scene and is building momentum with each fight. and as it turns out he has already become more popular with fans than ward. ward's gates in oakland have been declining because he's a dull fighter. its not like he's selling tickets for expensive prices either, i doubt his last gate against dawson was any higher dollar wise than what was sold for golovkins last fight.

i dont know a single person who went to wards last fight here in southern california. where is ward's leverage? he's pound for pound? its like claiming mayweather jr had all this leverage before he fought gatti. he didnt. ward doesnt even have any fights on the horizon and eventually he will have to move up to face kovalev. ward is badly hoping he can somehow get a chavez jr fight to look spectacular against a chump and boost himself into a fighter fans actually give a shit about, like mayweather jr did against gatti.

IF GGG doesn't deserve purse parity with Ward right now he has to feel at least very confident he will be way more popular and earning bigger purses if he keeps defending his title and getting KO's. Ward is very good but he won't be gaining any new fans unless he makes the big fights happen.
