KOVALEV vs. STEVENSON in Late Summer or Fall???...

I have to favor Kovalev in this match-up. Stevenson is a hard puncher, but he gets a bit wild, and has leaky defense. I don't think we'll see the final bell.

Interesting fight. Wonder when was the last time that arguably the two hardest punchers in the world have met each other

 

Jackson-McClellan?

 

Likely, or Benn-McClellan. Not too often anyways


I am pretty confident Kovalev takes is, but here if ever one punch can change it all

 

Jackson was a bigger puncher than Benn.

The fact that Stevenson can punch, is a southpaw, and Kov's chin is still basically untested means that Stevenson has a chance. However, while I don't know if Kov can take Stevenson's punch, I do know that Stevenson CANNOT handle Kov's power. And Kov is the more technically sound and consistent of the two.

Kov will walk him down and put him to sleep in under 6.

 

Lewis-Klitschko?

Benn was not that big of a puncher at 168.

 

Quitali was never a devastating one punch KO artist. He had clubbing power.

I'd say Lewis-Tua. They were considered the two biggest punchers in the sport when they fought. It's a shame that the fight was such a fucking borefest.

 

i think it's fair to assume that kolaev would hurt and KO stevenson when he lands, but i'm more curious to see how kolaev reacts when he gets hit clean. i see that many are already favoring kolaev, but i might lean towards stevenson.

 

I think it is almost sure thing that Kovalev gets also hurt if he gets hit. Kovalev has been dropped in the amateurs, which seems to suggest that his chin isn't pure granite, and anything less than that WILL get hurt by Stevenson, who is a huge puncher. Thus, just like was the case in McClellan vs Jackson, the question is not what happens when one of them gets hit (since that is obvious) but WHICH ONE is it. In my opinion that one is most likely Stevenson, since Kovalev seems to have the better technique and greater variety of power punches

Gimme Kovalev by KO, but it'll be interesting to see how far Stevenson's outrageous self-confidence can take him

 

I think a lot of you are overrating Kovalev. He,s a good fighter, but he tend to walk straight in. That will be disastrous for him against a tricky southpaw, wich happens to be a huge puncher. Though, I've always think that Stevenson is fragile, even if he never really shown it (the Boone Ko was an humongous, once in a lifetime lucky punch).

Still, I pick Stevenson by KO

 

Stevenson is sloppy but he's more defensively sound than Kovalev is.

Unless he's made incredible improvement over the year I'd say Kovalev is the most basic fighter I've seen at the world class level in a while. Stevenson probably dominates him.

 

I like Stevenson by early KO in this one. He's gonna catch Kovalev coming in with some big shots.

 

He's not basic at all, there are plenty more basic fighters at world level.

What makes you think he's basic, because he is very aggressive? And not up on his toes, jabbing and countering? He is craftier than his style suggests. Good feints, traps, counterpunching, and not the easiest guy to hit.

 

I'm surprised. Maybe I'm underrating Stevenson, but I'm not sold on him at all. Kovalev just seems better and more solid to me.

I pick Kovvles to walk him down, beat him up, and stop him in 6 or 7 rounds.

 

Feint?

When have you ever seen him feint? He feints the least I've ever seen from a high level pro fighter. He moves forward and punches, doesn't move his head, and he is a good counterpuncher but against rank level competition. He hasn't faced anyone particularly athletic who are much hard to counter and time...especially considering he's slow.


I think hes going to eat shots coming in yes but I think ultimately hes going to get knocked out when he drops his hands after a lull in punching like he seems to have a habit of doing.


He's nothing special at all. Just another overrated puncher. GGG is far above his level in technical skill.

I think Agnew owns a win over Chris Henry. He should be made a solid favorite over Kov.

 

His right hand back then might have been the hardest punch in the sport. Not sure they were the two hardest punchers at the time, though. Jackson vs McClellan probably was, though.

I think the best way to really answer this is to get out some older p4p puncher lists and start looking.
