"Two good performances" in a film fucking dripping with good performances

What exactly is missing from the first two Godfather films?

I can't think of a thing... The story is engrossing, the performances fantastic, the direction speaks for itself, the characters are complex and multi-dimensional, there is drama, there is action, there is comedy, tragedy, twists of fate, evolution... the films are clearly great

Braveheart....I like the movie..I have seen it often...but i like it in pieces...I like the some of the beginning, and some of the middle and the end....but somewhere after 45-60 minutes it turns and I don't like it as much....then I like it again...

Heat compared Godfather is like Chavez compared to Duran. In other words, Heat is an all time great movie, Godfather is a top 5 atg movie.

I think Django Unchained is an overrated recent movie. It was just ok imo, the most memorable scene to me was the 'family guy' scene where they are arguing about KKK hoods.

Heat is an outstanding film, but it is not anywhere near the class of something like The Godfather

For real? If I had a dime for every time I'd heard someone refer to Braveheart as a "GREAT" film, I'd be a millionaire

agREED on Gladiator... predictable revenge fantasy with a bunch of brooding by Crowe

The guy who got the Oscar - only did so because the other nominations that year were shit.
If you really want to see a proper, bonafide Brando performance from that era - Last Tango In Paris is fucking staggering compared to 'Godfather'.
    Other notables:
James Caan - mumbles more than Brando and is off-the-wall.
Al Pacino? Start of the eye-rolling, faux-ominous rumblings...

    It's not a bad movie...it just doesn't deserve iconic/untouchable status.

Once Upon A Time In America (the massive 4hr+ cut) - that's the mob-movie.

Gladiator came along at a time when these types of 'epic' historical movies hadn't been seen in decades.
    It definitely stands up.

I love Cdogg, but he's a movie snob who likes to shit on every movie in history that's not The Conversation, Godfather, or Taxi Driver.

Gladiator is indeed an awesome movie.

    Bullshit!

And people are acting like Crowe was the only actor in the movie. Part of what made the movie so good was how awesome a villain Phoenix played.

    How? Braveheart receives more acclaim.

Gladiator is the best "epic" of the last 25 years.

My perceptions always been that Gladiator got and gets more acclaim. Maybe im wrong or maybe my perception's coloured by being in Scotland. Anybody I speak to just finds it funny.

Yeah, in the US I feel like Braveheart receives more acclaim. Although, Gladiator is probably more POPULAR over here, if that makes sense.

But regardless, I simply find Gladiator to be a better movie. And a big reason for that, like I said, Phoenix's acting was better than Gibson's and Crowe's.

Godfather 1 & 2 are better than Heat by a substantial margin. Heat I feel is a tad overrated sometimes. Not that it wasn't a great movie, but I still think it's overrated.

Django was an awesome movie! The fuck are you talkin about?

Strangely, at the time of seeing it...I thought that too and thought everyone was going overboard on it.
I guess those times could be ghey (Phoenix, ugh)...that's why they manned-up on all the brutality?
