Successful is different than good. that movie stunk but Had a 215 mil budget and made 260 million dollars. And that does not include DVDs/Blurays/Rentals/Itunes Purchases.

[IMG] Anthony, please lets not go there again: a movie NEEDS to make DOUBLE its budget just to break even and on top on that is the millions spend on marketing. Lone Ranger was a BOMB worldwide no matter how you look at it.

And these remakes were considered box office fiascos:

    Jack the Giant Slayer
    Old Boy
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
    The Delivery Man
    We Are What We Are
    The Lone Ranger
    Much Ado About Nothing
    The Bling Ring

Again, they dont need to be doubled. I have proven that before. We will have to agree to disagree.

Walter smitty made 175 mil at the box office. not close to flop. DVD sales and rentals will be huge for it too.

Jack the Giant slayer isnt a remake to the best of my knowledge

The delivery man made over 50 mil dollars.

We are what we are was a low budget movie and we dont know what the original made.

    Oldboy sucked so who cares

much ado about nothing is not a remake, it's Shakespeare play that being said, it was a limited release in about 200 theaters and made over 4 mil. Not bad. You dont know the budget either

How is the bling ring a remake?

I wouldn't say it needs to double at least not when it has a budget like that. But to call this a success is something not even the media spokesperson of the studio would do.

Which movie? Robocop? Nobody is calling it a success.

Jack The Giant Slayer is a remake of 1963 'Jack The Giant Killer'

Walter Mitty cost over $90 million with another $30-$40 million in marketing. Not exactly a success.
The Delivery Man had a budget of $26 million plus like $10-$15 million in marketing. It only made $30 million
The Bling Ring was a remake of the 2011 Lifetime tv movie
The fact that the Oldboy remake sucked doesn't erase the fact that it was a remake that bombed badly.

Are you ready for the Scarface remake?

Two movies about the same subject matter does not make the 2nd one a remake of the first.

That being said, I absolutely hate that these idiotic twats had two movies dedicated to their incompetent, overblown "exploits".

What bullshit numbers you think the marketing costs are exagerrated?

if you go by this link, every other movie would be a failure, too if Harry Potter was one. What I meant is Lone Ranger is a failure based on the gigantic budget und the percentage wise less than spectacular plus it did worldwide and taking into consideration the huge amount they spend on marketing.

If they were not remaking it, they should have chosen a different title.

no dude. That is what Disney wants you to believe. But in reality, it's just another case of "Hollywood Accounting". Look it up.

Movie studios claim that they lost money so they dont have to play actors net points if there is a profit. There is a lot of suspicion of disney's figures regarding this movie. Again, WB did the same thing regarding Harry Potter. If you think they spent 175 million on advertisement, i got a bridge to sell you. 175 mil is more than it cost to make most movies dude. Disney is full of shit.

I agree the number is hard to believe. And I believe that they want us to think they are doing worse than what they are. But even if you think that the marketing costs were much less, I wouldn't call Lone Ranger a success.

Hard to say without knowing the DVD/BluRay/itunes/rentals numbers. There is just no way to tell unless the studio is audited. But it was the #1 rental on itunes for a few weeks, so it definitely is more popular out of the theaters than in.

Yeah I'd like to know how much the rentals achieve compared to the theatre numbers on average. Plus if a movie makes a certain number in the cinemas how much do the studios get from that - I mean the theatres need to pay for staff and equipment and so on. and the numbers we see on imdb are only the ticket price * sold tickets so you probably can't just calculate those numbers minus production costs, can you?

Well the equipment is usually the studios. they own all of that. And the staff pay isnt really that much compared to the millions they make. Grips and such make peanuts. But DVD sales and rentals is HUGE business. Van Damme and Steven Seagal make more money doing striaght to rentals than would at the movie theaters. It's big Business.
