As you suggested, first I listened to plenty of broadcasts and I made notes of what the broadcasters talk about and how often. I listened both to the old timers (Dunphy and Cosell) and the new teams. When I practiced for it, I realized what it meant that 'less is more', as somebody pointed out. So I tried to only call the important punches, since explaining everything that viewers can see themselves is just silly. Then between punches, as Stevedave said, I tried to tell a story by telling what the fighters had said before the fight for the press, what I assumed their strategies were and what their past fights would suggest we could wait for. Luckily enough, the main event was dramatic so it was easy to live through it.

It was a 3.5 hour broadcast overall, so naturally I made some errors during it, but I didn't stumble with my words too much and I had prepared with stuff I could talk between the fights so it all went smoothly. I felt good from the beginning and as the first bout of the night seemed to go well for me, I started to enjoy the task more and more.

For Froch-Kesssler I will get a friend of mine to the booth to do the commentary, so I believe it will be even more fun. I don't have a tape from this past fight but I'll try to get one from the next

An update to this old subject, mainly to thank you guys again for your tips. I am now a regular boxing broadcaster of this channel. They show about 15 fight cards a year so it is more of a cool hobby than an actual job. Hopefully I get to do some other sports later too, so I could stop being a teacher.

Here is a little clip from last Saturday's broadcast, I had a former professional boxer as a commentator. It was a crappy Sauerland card from Denmark. I can't actually tape the programs so I shot this with a video camera from TV's replay last night.

    There's a nice punch at 2:16

The mistake I made in this bout was that I talked in too long sentences and thus I lacked the 'snap' of Lampley or Tompkins. Finnish is a tricky language in that sense, it is more difficult to express your points quickly than it is in English. Plenty of more practice needed

Did you yell "SELANNE!" when punches landed?

Very cool. Hopefully you can get on a major card one day, like Hegman's PPV extravaganza that is bound to be the biggest night in boxing history.

If it was german or english I could tell if you suck. Are you the one with the deeper voice, who talks more? I guess that's good you talk a lot or maybe that's just the finnish. Seems like you can just ramble on and it sounds good. German is a little different.

I made some money on the under in that fight - did you tell people, that the opponent is a total bum?
