Not sure if Hendricks is tired or has really bad recovery? He's completely stopped moving his head since the first two rounds.
Maybe Lawler is a genius and this was some extremely risky gambit strategy he used to tire Hendricks out before turning it on the last 2 rounds. Although the margin of error is insanely low and Lawler is probably tired going into the 5th himself.
it's not really a genius move. It's Robbie Lawler. That is how what he does. Hendricks always had unpredictable cardio.
@ hendricks GSPing it in the final second. It's smart too, cause Robbie is so dangerous when he is hurt. Ask Melvin
Hendricks gets his second wind and Lawler doesn't answer the heavy punches....basically showing why you don't give two rounds away in a 5 round fight. Lawler has been knocked out pretty bad in previous fights though so I don't begrudge him for not wanting to get knocked out.
well if the judges gave hendricks round 1 and 2 then he should have this. But Hendricks was hurt bad twice in this fight.
OK what? I think it's sad. If Condit could wrestle he wouldn't lose so many fights and especially to guys with glaring weaknesses like Woodley.
It's funny cause i dont see Diaz as much, but i could see him lighting Hendricks up all fucking night.
I agree the leg kick did the final damage. It's a shame but his lack of wrestling cost him the fight. Grappling is such a huge part of fighting you'd think he would have caught on by now.
Hendricks looked horrible tonight, if lawlor had more cardiovascular I think he could have stopped him. I honestly can't see Hendricks beating diaz, style match up is horrible for him unless he lays and prays. Actually with condit out now for a while, if either Hendricks or Woodley got injured it's not too far fetched to see diaz fighting for the title
How is this a difficult thing to do against Nick Diaz? His wrestling is only slightly less embarrassing than Condit's.
The main event was a great fight. I wasn't sure if Robbie Lawler had improved that much with his recent win streak. Now I'm a believer. He has the potential to beat anyone at welterweight. He came so close to beating Hendricks, the best guy in the division. He just didn't have anything left in the last round. The Condit injury sucked. I was hoping he'd win and get the next title shot. Now I just hope he's not out for too long and he's the same fighter he was before the injury. Some guys are never as fast or explosive after an injury like that.
that was a great fight. can't believe lawler didnt go out brawling in the fifth, and instead it was hendricks who dug deep and pulled it out w/ his late rally. i was impressed w/ lombard on how easily he was able to take shields down and not get sucked into a guard. i'd like to see lombard get the next title shot, but i doubt it. sanchez looks like he should be stepping away from the cage soon. i didn't think jury was special at all. i was rooting for condit, but again, his lack of takedown defense vs wrestlers is hurting him at the highest level. he might be out for a bit w/ that knee injury.
If Lombard would have pressed the issue, he could have finished Shields and really made a statement about a title shot. Unfortunately he Is either unwilling or unable to go hard for a full round. As a result, he looked great for brief moments but didn't do near enough to jump past Woodley or MacDonald for the next shot. Realistically Woodley is the same guy that Marquardt walked thru. He's explosive with great wrestling but will always wilt down the stretch. Like Lombard, he just doesn't have the gas tank. I haven't heard anything about Condit's injury but if it's a ruptured ACL, he is probably done as a top flight fighter. His herky-jerky style and age will make it difficult to get back. i lost money on Lawler last night but wasn't the least bit disappointed. That was a classic fight and both guys showed serious metal. I'd like to see Lawler-Lombard next.
Excellent Main Event... Ebbs & Flows the Whole Way...BOTH Guys Appeared to Be a Shot or 2 from Being FINISHED @ 1 Point & it was ANYBODY's Fight Heading into the 5th Round...Good Shit...REED Would GLADLY Watch a RE btwn Hendricks & Lawler @ ANY Time...It was a More SKILLFUL Version of Griffin-Bonnar... Condit-Woodley was JUST Getting Good when Condit Injured his Knee...Woodley Looked VERY Explosive in that 1st Round Though...Diego Sanchez Got WORKED by that Jury Kid & Jake Shields was Being MANHANDLED by Lombard, Although he Almost Got the Submission @ the End... REED
Lombard is a beast, especially since he got down to welterweight. He should be undefeated in the UFC imo. would have like to see him vs GSP, as I think he's explosive enough that he would have koed him early (would have bet a few quids on it). Talking about GSP, it seems he retired just at the right time, as I dont think he would have coped well with this "new" crop of welter.
lombard is a beast for a few minutes. Then he is no threat at all IMO. Someone with good stand up and a strong upper body will knock his gassed ass out. And Im sorry, but GSP would toy with Lawler and do better in a rematch with Hendricks.
Agree with all of this. GSP would absolutely have any easy time with Lawler. GSP is technically sound on his feet and would have no problems taking Robbie down. Lombard is great in brief spurts. Unfortunately he is so afraid of gassing that he rarely pushes himself.
